New TA - who sorts out tax?

I've just received my first pay slip from my new TA job and I've been taxed (part time - earn waaaay under the allowance) - is it me that needs to sort this out or the school admin staff?

It'll be emergency tax. You'll need to speak to payroll or HMRC - they won't speak to admin about your tax circumstances

I thought so, but I did the P46 that they asked for.

The admin staff gave me a (what I presume) is a payroll number to call, but a friend of mine had the same problem and she was told it was up to the admin office to sort out, so I thought I'd save myself an unnecessary phone call by posting on MN!

I'll call it tomorrow then, thanks.

Same thing happened to me. I did a p46 but for some reason the tax office kept overriding it and putting me back on emergency code as they had me down as having 2 jobs. I rang the tax office and it seemed that they still had me down as working for my previous employer even though I had left them 10 years previous and hadn't worked since. They could see from my records that I hadn't paid any tax since leaving the job so they reinstated full allowance immediately and a rebate of the tax paid went through on my next pay.
