Describe KS3 Please

Just from a purely academic pov please can somebody explain the skills and abilities gained through KS3 in individual years please.

I know that children mature physically and emotionally hugely over this time but just looking from a purely academic sense.

Do you mean things like thinking skills, presentation skills, working in groups, organising oneself, etc?

Yes, that type of thing.

Like for example the difference between what is expected at y7 to y9
It seems so long since my dc were here.

I tell you one thing as a HOY7 that staff and parents are telling me repeatedly about..the lack of organisation skills and independence of the students! So I hope from yr 7-9 they develop that. Not sure really what you are asking...general skills or a breakdown per subject of what they do?? In yr 7 in terms of skills for learning generally we look at developing resilience, managing themselves, being responsible etc. I also teach history so we are looking at developing source analysis, ability the answer with longer paragraphs (PEE, PEEEL etc) but this builds on primary curriculum of course. Can you be more specific with what you want to know? I think you are a teacher if I remember but are you asking as a parent?..If so, my first sentence is key!

That is brilliant and exactly the type of thing I meant.

I'm sorry not to have explained better. I was seeking some subject specific skills but also those you included that were generic, which are more appropriate for me.

My dd is y6 and H.ed, at some stage between y7 and y9 she will enter school again and would like to know we have prepared her well. I would hate for her to be behind in the skills required for whatever age she enters iyswim.

I am also volunteering to chaperone children of this age and I would like to think that I am encouraging them in the right way, rather than babying them too much.
