Recommended teaching agencies in S.Yorks

Just that really...I've been trawling the web and found 'rate my teaching agency' but reviews seem very hit and miss, and if I'm honest, lots look made up by the agencies themselves! Just wondering if anyone would recommend any particular agency? I've spoke to Teaching Personnel and have been looking at Capita and Protocol, just not sure who's considered a decent agency.
Also, does anyone know if you can contact schools directly to offer yourself as supply?

I'm signed up with protocol and in 3 years they have found me zero work. In fact they had a vacancy, I phoned them, the person obviously couldn't read my CV properly and thought I wasn't suitable so I phoned another agency and they spoke to the college and I spent 2 months working there.

I get most work through Jambo and 99 Hippos, neither are local. I'm in the midlands, Jambo are in Cornwall and 99hippos are in Barrow in Furness.

I've also had some odd days with Teacher Active, they keep a record of your availability and phone you at 7.30am if they have work.

I don't think you will find any schools that you can approach daily but some FE colleges have a pool of staff.

Good luck.

Thanks, Sashh. I've not heard of either of those but I'll give them a look :-)

I'm in Sheffield and have done supply all over south Yorkshire and Derbyshire. Best supply agency u worked for was Vision for education. also a lot of contact from provide education and teaching personnel (but only ever did a couple of days for these.) Avoided Hays though. If you are wanting Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster or Derbyshire I can recommend vision for education. got my long term placement through them too.
