anybody working in a boarding school with primary shcool chn? how does it work?

thinking of applying for a teaching job in a boarding school, but this school is from 13-18. I checked and there are not many local prep/ primary schools. How do peopl manage such a situation? if not realistic with childrcare... then will NOT apply? I Hvae husband who works full time and woudl need to leave 5.30 am in the morning to get to his job...Woudl really aprpecite practical advice! Thank you!

No, used to do state school but every now and then consider boarding.

I presume youd have to sometimes be "at work" v early and often do an evening shift. Some schools have sat am as standard and some then expect staff to do extra curricular sat pm. You'd need to get a feel for each one. The job I wish id taken was part time at a girls boarding school pre kids, was love in and fairly full on in term time though.

What childcare do you use now? If your husband cant do school runs you will need someone who can as you will obviously be at work!

My dh teaches in the Upper School (6th form) of a boarding school.

His hours are 8.30am-6-6.30pm (classes start at. 9am usually though 8.30am is meetings. Some staff do Saturday mornings too.

It's not much different to an ordinary school. Music teachers often work after 4pm anyway & there are occasional things like theatre trips/performances etc.

The fact the children live in a boarding house is irrelevant to him really. They arrive at 9am & leave at 6pm the same as they would if living with parents.

As a teacher dh is used to never bring able to do the school run etc.

You would need to inquire about what the role expected beyond classroom teaching. Full time staff where I work do boarding duty in the houses in the evening and have other evening/weekend commitments as well. We have Saturday morning school as well as Saturday afternoon sport. There are sometimes Sunday commitments as well. It is a very full time job. But all boarding schools differ in their requirements of teaching staff, so you need to ask!
