Masters with the OU

Am thinking about embarking on a Masters with the OU. Am a teacher of 20 years, with a break for having my chn. Love my job and think this could probably be a good time to do my Masters. Has anyone else done this recently? I know young/newly qualified teachers who have taken a Masters quite soon after qualifying but don't know anyone whose done it after a break from studying.

Hi I'm doing a masters in education with the OU. About halfway through now. I've enjoyed it but it's a lot of extra work on top of full time teaching. What subject would you do? The Educational Enquiry module was a bit dry but I'm glad I did it first as it helps with the research components of the following modules.

May I ask, does the MA help advance your career or is it simply for your own pleasure. I was just chatting to a friend about the MA tonight, and people's motivation for doing it.

I'm just doing a masters module (and should be typing an essay right now instead of being on here!). I have not written an essay for 20 odd years and have found the whole process really interesting but tough going. If you are not teaching it will be ok but doing both and having 2DC to organise into the mix - not easy. Loving the intellectual challenge but have changed my mind about whether to do a whole masters. Not enough hours in the day! Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I was thinking about doing a Master in Education. Two reasons really; one to further my career and two to give me something else that would stimulate me! I must say, I do wonder when I would fit it in but then again am starting to wonder if I will regret it if I don't just get on with it. I know it will be hard fitting it all in but I guess that is why most people don't do them. Does it actually help your career though? Difficult decision!

I did a Masters in Education with the OU about ten years ago. Really enjoyed it. My current Head did tell me it was one of the things that stood out on my application. Alternatively, have you thought about some of the NCSL courses? I've just finished the NPQSL which my school paid for, and is worth 60 Masters Credits.
