Should I go for job in a brand new free school?

I've got an interview for a new girls free school opening in September 2014.

I applied because I thought the idea of teaching in a brand new school sounded exciting and interesting and liked the idea of being there at the beginning, involved in shaping policies, curriculum etc.

However, all I've had from my colleagues and other teachers is negative feedback. I admit to not knowing too much about free schools but everyone's warning me off and I'm now wondering if it's a bad idea.

I've worked in an inner city London school for 12 years and have been part-time for 1.

What do people think?

They are stuck in a rut- sounds really exciting - why not try it?

personally i would give it a wide berth too but there are free schools and free schools

I would go for it! The old world your colleagues are used to - of time-serving civil servant servants calculating their pensions entitlement - is dying. This is a chance to shape education and inject some energy, innovation and enthusiasm into the learning of the next generation. If some are still clinging to the past, leave them there, but here is an opportunity to re-invent a new style. It doesn't have to be the way it was-always-done. I am currently working in a department of people who do not sit around moaning in the staffroom, but who are innovating, and revelling in it. Refreshing change from the miseries I encountered in my previous school. If you have energy and enthusiasm, use it, don't lose it...
