Does anyone like teaching anymore?

I taught foundation and key stage one for eleven years before having children of my own. I went back briefly when my eldest was a year old but decided to have a few years off when the second one came along. My youngest is due to start Reception in September and that's my cue to return to work. It's been five years since I left and I'm well aware that lots has changed in that time. Ex colleagues and teacher friends don't seem to be happy at work anymore and I've read all sorts of stories on here! I just wondered if there was anyone who still enjoyed their job?

Me! I do. I bloody love it. I am currently sitting eating my lunch (5.30) because I've had such a busy day - taught 4 classes then had school play rehearsal then a meeting then another play rehearsal, then had to pick up my own kids and drop them at their drama club. I haven't drawn breath today but I don't mind. My job excites and energises me on a daily basis and I can't think of anything else I'd rather do.

Me too. Secondary SENCO. Teach challenging children and young people and lead the TAs as well as a stack of other stuff. So much to do, so little time...never boring, lovely colleagues. Go for it...it's what YOU make it.

I love teaching. Absolutely adore it. Best job in the world.

It's the constantly changing goalposts that I hate.

I teach in Wales. I love teaching and I'm in nursery. I'm not such a massive fan of the other stuff, but I adore being in the classroom. I even enjoy figuring out wall displays etc.

It's a secret that we still really love out jobs in the main! Can't have Give finding that out he'll make it worse!
My DH really hates parts of my job. Like the way it takes over my life. But teaching isn't something I do; it's something I am.

But I'm lucky enough to be in a great little school where we have complete freedom to teach how we like.

Love the kids. Hate the job, management, government...

I absolutely love it! Secondary English.

It's the crap that goes with it I'm not so keen on. That & the permanent exhaustion & stress.

I also have a dh who doesn't quite grasp that I can rant for half an hour without drawing breath on the shit that I've had to put up with today, & still genuinely love teaching.

He's 'meh' about his job. I'm seldom 'meh' about mine, one way or t'other...

Love the job. It's interesting, challenging and ever-changing.

Don't like the changing goal posts or the paperwork. Teaching in Wales, new Literacy and Numeracy framework to add in to all our plans. And in a pilot programme for increasing the amount of Welsh taught through other subjects, so that needs adding to the planning too.

Still wouldn't do any other job in the world though!

Love it love it love it- bloody Gove though he is doing his best to take all the fun out of it but what he doesn't realise ius that we secretly won't let him turn our lovely pupils into numbers on a page.

Good job this is anonymous. I had to sign an e safetly policy stating that I was not allowed to say anything derogatory about my employers including the county I work for and the government (ie Mr Gove) on my facebook page!

That policy sounds ridiculous. We're allowed political opinions and a life outside school.

I love it! Absolutely love it and couldn;t imagine doing anything else!

Watching the childrne develop over the weeks and months, knowing I played a huge part in helping them develop and progress and learn new things, seeing their faces when they 'get' something and it all starts to click into place, being the one who makes them wonder about the wrold, ask questions, explore, investigate, be inquisitive, I love it!

The paperwork, constant observations, planning and marking are all hard work but worth it for the bigger picture.

Yes, I love the classroom and the children. I miss them when I don't see them as they are just great.

I don't like the staff politics etc. but I am in a nice school. There is a bit of flexibility, I not have a long commute and have taught in the school for over a decade so I'm very comfortable and like the people I work with and have a good relationship with parents.

I do -- despite my other thread! Mind you, school has good leadership and is an academy so somewhat insulated from any bonkers-ness of policy.

Yes. Being part time helps but I work in a brill department, teach many pleasant, appreciative young people (and a few little shits, but the ratio is good) and enjoy regular holidays and a decent salary.

RavenAK - that's it, exactly - I can rant about my job on a bad day but I am never meh about it.

Adore it. Have a "joy of teaching" moment mist days.

Love it! Every day is different and the kids are so fantastic. I'm Nursery. Best job in the world despite paperwork, observations, endless learning journals and bloody Gove.

Thank you for your replies. I'm glad to hear it's not all doom and gloom! Time to start looking for jobs then...

I love my job.Peripatetic music so absolved of a lot of the crap everyone else has to face, and I have to admit to burying my head in the sand from a lot of it too. I love teaching, my pupils are ace and I just do my best to ignore the rest of the crap!
