Should I move from 16-18 to secondary?

Hi there,

I have a very specific job, so have namechanged not to out myself.

I deliver ESOL and functional skills to 16-18 yr old young people in a voluntary sector training provider, 20hpw
I love my job, and get on great with the learners. I manage a very challenging group relatively well.

But I am sick of the lack of structure and support. I get 4 weeks holiday per year and the pay is shite. Some of my colleagues and the management are incompetent.

I want out, and have been considering my options.

Ditch teaching altogether and find something else to do?

Teach in a secondary school? Teach what? ESOL is not often a subject in its own right in secondaries. I could do mfl or d&t.

Any advice would be gratefully received, as I need to start moving on my exit strategy.

Hmm just read my post, and not sure if I have been clear enough about why I want out.

I ask for vital resources, like dictionaries and audiovisual hardware, and am ignored.

I raise concerns about the financial management aspects of the programme and am ignored, and when the issues become radioactive am then required to work extra hard to resolve it.

I try to set consistent boundaries in the classroom which are undermined by colleagues.

The paperwork planning preparation and logging of all targets/ work done are a huge task which have 2 hours allotted to them. The rest of the time I am delivering training or assessments.

I am sick of questioning everything the management tell us because it is so often incorrect.

Do you have a secondary pgce or would you be needing to retrain?

I get that I would have similar problems in terms of workload in a school.... But I would at least have the pay and holidays......

I have a post compulsory PGCE so not necessarily needing to retrain, although it might not be easy to get a job.

Check to see if this gives you QTS, otherwise as an unqualified teacher you will be at a disadvantage.

Thanks, fuckry.. I have been seeking advice on this, and will phone the ifl on Monday.... However what I need to know is is it a good idea to make the move?

Ifl say I can get QTLS if I go through their licensing process which takes about 9 months and costs £500.
Will it be harder to get a job as, say an EAL teacher or in a PRU with QTLS than with QTS?

Am I more likely to get a job if I do a SKE in MFL or something, so I am able to do more roles In a school?
