Going on a course whilst on maternity leave

I received an email today for a really interesting looking course, but I'm currently on maternity leave.

Would it seem weird if I asked to go on it? It's nearly £300, and unbeknown to my Head, I plan on leaving the school next summer. I'm not sure how impressed she'll be, further down the line, if she realises that I've used school's money and then buggered off.

I've been on maternity since the second week of September, having popped me sprog at the start of October. I plan on returning to work in June for the mammoth 8 week final half term.

I think it's a bit unethical if you already know that you are going to leave.

If you only go back for 8 weeks, you'll have to pay back some of your maternity pay, unless you decided not to have the 50% bit which would probably give your HT the hint that you're leaving anyway!

My school wouldn't sign a £300 course off for someone who was in school let alone on maternity. I think working while on maternity, unless as a registered KIT day can affect your maternity pay too.

The summer holidays count towards my 13 weeks' servixe, so I wouldn't have to pay it back. Also I hope to get another job for sept 14, so that'd count too.

I haven't been on any courses in the 3 years I've worked at the school, but I doubt the head would agree.

Oh well. It looked really good too!

Are you sure about the summer holidays counting? I know that they didn't when at had dd, but that was 8 years ago so things may well have changed.

The summer holidays counted when I had DS- now 12.
