Christmas 'fun' lessons in MFL

This will be my 2nd year in secondary school and there is no way I'm sticking a video on whilst kids sit and do nothing in my classroom during last week of Christmas term.

I quite fancy a craft session - one which will produce enough material to place on a god awful wall that needs covering up.

Any ideas please? Thanks loads.

I used to have the instructions for making a Christmas card in German and French - with a Christmas tree that stood up when you opened it. Maybe a quiz about Christmas in different countries? I also had the recipe for simple biscuits in German and many years ago ( when I was a teacher in mainstream) cooked them with my year sevens.

I did this in a primary school lesson (cross curricular and all that), but you could extend it.

Give them a net for a cube. They have to decorate it with the numbers (and equivalent words), then build the cube. They then used it to play board games (counting the moves in French).

You could get them to create their own board games, or make your own snakes and ladders type thing. You could include challenge cards as well. They can play their own, then they can switch groups and play someone else's. Depending on language level, they could be given the instructions in the target language/write their own instructions.
