Becoming a primary school teacher

Hi

Hopefully someone can help. I am currently on mat leave, I have worked for a niche recruitment firm for the last 3.5 years - since finishing the legal practice course. I have had some time out of work and realised I really don't want to go back there. I want to look at becoming a primary school teacher and would like some advice on the easiest routes. I have a 2.1 law degree, what is the best way for me to become a primary school teacher. I could volunteer at a school as a TA maybe one day a week if this would help?

If you are looking for anything easy I would forget teaching!

The quickest route is School Direct but you would need quite a bit of relevant experience to be accepted, so yes, volunteering would help.

You need to know that primary teaching is now a pretty cut-throat, target driven work environment where you will be constantly judged against the outcomes you achieve without any contextual information being taken into consideration- anything fluffy and life-affirming has basically been eradicated. I am saying this and I like my job!!

I would look at secondary teaching, seems much easier and much less work

I'm not looking for an easy ride, sorry if it sounded like that? I'm used to working in recruitment so a very cut throat corporate environment. I understand that work isnt just school hours. I didn't mean the easy way to get into just the best way to qualify

I was going to say the graduate teaching programme but see that I am now out of date. I would go into your local primary school and have a chat with the Head - if you have an approachable one. See if you can be a volunteer to get a feel for if you like it and also ask advice.

School direct is the new graduate teacher programme, and they do some salaried places too. Give it a google.
