Teaching primary maths, am NQT and had obs last week which didn't go too well so luckily get to do it all over again. Have planned everything and got resources ready but still very anxious. Does anyone have tips for calming down? Thank you

Focus on the good kids not the naughty ones, smile, look directly at observer as you give them lesson plan etc.

Good luck.

What were you asked to work on last time?

My tips would be to target questions using the children's names; give plenty of time targets and encouragement during the independent part; don't be afraid to stop and go back over a concept if you find they're not secure. And give plenty of praise, both for behaviour and effort.

Make sure they are all involved in the lesson e.g. Mini whiteboards to respond to questions, talk partners. have a clear lesson objective and draw attention to what you are hoping them to achieve, give them an opportunity to review what they have learnt at the end. Use good pieces of work as an example at the end. Make sure the lesson is appropriately differentiated for all abilities in the class.

Oh and put on a red nose and tap dance on the table too... [cynical]
