Is good the new satisfactory?

Hi, have been away from teaching for some time whilst bringing up my kids. I have been in my present post since Xmas. I have done lots of supply work and have so far escaped ofsted. We are "being done" this week and I was observed on tues. my feedback was that although my input was outstanding, I'd tried to pack too much into the main part of the lesson and was therefore judged as good. Having been initially pleased I am now wondering if I really should be. If "satisfactory" doesn't really exist anymore does that mean that if this was done say, last year that I'd have been judged as satisfactory? I know it doesn't really matter and that it doesn't really mean much but I have a niggling disappointment. Do most people get outstanding nowadays?

No, the way I understand it is that satisfactory has changed to required improvement, the implication being that all teachers should be at least good.

So most people must get good or outstanding then. Don't know why I'm bothered really. Should perhaps just be glad it's over!!

No definately not - as more teachers were getting outstanding 'they' moved the goalposts so that 'every pupil must show rapid and sustained progress in the the lesson' on order for an outstanding judgement to be given. All pupils must be fully engaged for 100% of the leson etc - I'm a teacher and I'm not 100% engaged for every lesson of the day so gawd knows how the pupils are meant to be.
So a big well done to you on your good judgement - good is the new outstanding

"Requires improvement" is the new good, I think, so if you're "good", you would have been "outstanding".

Yes good is the new satisfactory. I really think we could do a better job teaching the children if Ofsted would stop redefining the English language!
