Hospital appointments

Are teachers entitled to time off for hospital appointments? I've been waiting for this one since September and typically it has come through for one of my work days.

Yes you are. Give school as much notice as possible, show them the letter and explain that this clinic is only held on one of your work days so you cant change the appointment

Thanks, I thought that was the case. I have a feeling that ht may suggest I swap days with my job sharer but that would cost us both quite a bit in extra child care since our childminders (quite understandably) will happily work extra days but won't swap days without extra charge.

Yes, you are. In my school, however, I am not entitled to take my DD for hospital appointments without losing pay. I should send her over 2hours on a bus (if there was, inded a bus to catch which there won't be) on her own. THe only exception is if there is a general anaesthetic involved.

tell me about it cardibach! My HT is pretty anti teachers' children and thinks we should somehow magic our family away while we are at school. Any time I have to take sick days for my dd they are unpaid, think thats pretty normal though.

Fingers crossed she is more reasonable about my appointment.
