How much work should a TA take home?

Out of interest what is reasonable? I'm all for a little bit of cutting out, but we have been asked to do children's learning journey's at home. Is this usual?

You do nothing at home at all. How ridiculous.

No - you shouldn't be doing anything at home as a TA.

For the peanuts they get paid for a bloody difficult job, they shouldn't be taking anything home.

Unless they are paying you overtime the answer is none

Our ta's take nothing home. I've worked from year r to year 6 and never known ta's to be willing/asked to take work home. Are you in nursery?

Nothing. TAs aren't paid enough to take work home. Some do it out of dedication, but that's their call.

I'm a TA and my teacher will literally walk me out the door if I'm there past a certain time - it depends what level you are - for example the TA3s in our school stay extra hours on different days to help the teachers out but their pay reflects that - I know of at least 2 TA3s who take their work home so they can finish on time to pick up their kids - I'd suggest a quick chat with the head to ask what your contract states to be honest

I don't even bring cutting out home. Although I am all for showing a bit of doing a little extra in extreme needs.
I'm at a school that pays quite high salary to TA's (came from previous HT battling with LA for it), and the current HT has now said she needs to justify it so we now have to do case studies on pupils in line with our own areas of development.
There's no time to do that during work hours so has to be done in free time.

I don't take anything home. I might have a look on the net for some resources to help my teachers in my own time but only if I choose to. My head has given me overtime if I have had a lot of work and not enough paid time to do it, but I wouldn't work unpaid at home.

Nothing! As a teacher I have thought of being a TA just because you work with the DCs, have proper breaks and walk out at the end of the day. The pay is low- you can get more on the checkout at a supermarket. Do not do anything at home! Say 'no' - unless you get overtime.

I'm a TA3 and was pleasantly surprised ( not) to find out my hourly pay has gone up by a whole £0.15 an hr!!

I had to chase this increase plus HT didn't want to backdate it from when I had qualified... Needless to say staff morale isn't great at our school.....

I wouldn't dream of asking a TA to do anything at home

I wouldn't ask mine to take any home, or stay late to do stuff, if my Ta doesn't get it done, I stay late and do it.

Nothing at all. My TA does it all the time, despite pleading, She also prints and laminates and all sorts at home.
However her family income is about twice mine, so it is on moral rather than economic grounds that I worry.

Silverymoon would you mind telling us your hourly pay? I would love to know if I am paid high/middle/low in the south east. And do any other TAs get a yearly increase? Even if it is 10p a week? We get no increases at all, no inflation increase, no professional increase. Ever. They take pay away though (London Weighting disappeared this year).

I take work home if it's something I want to do - get my files in order, update my resources, etc. I do the extra mile - work after hours etc but have stopped doing the extra mile and a half since our tea breaks were taken away last year.

I haven't taken cutting out home since I cut a perfect letter 'P' out of my favourite skirt in front on Eastenders many years ago. [grin}

I take lots of work home - I expect to, as a teacher. No way should any TA be taking stuff home; you are paid nowhere near enough.

That is the about the only perk of being a TA!

I do quite a few things at home, but because I want to. My teacher and line manager always say I shouldn't so I am very surprised your school is actually asking you to.
