I have my application all ready but wondered if anyone on here did it. It is something I have always been interested in but before I press the button and send I wanted good and bad points.
Thank you.

I teach at a residential school for boys with social and emotional problems. They are probably a step down from YOI. it is cool as they are 24/7 in care so getting tlc and boundaries. It Is far calmer than mainstream - less shouting and unrest. Have you visited the place? I would do that if poss.

I do primary EBD and LOVE it. I would happily work in a YOT if I did secondary. Small numbers means you can get to know each kid in fine detail and work out what makes them tick. As long as you are motivated by helping them and not by getting anything back from them (including gratitude) you will enjoy it.

Good luck!

By YO do you mean under 17y or over 17y?

If latter I worked in a male prison which was 50% adult and 50% YO (17-21y) . I was previously a secondary school teacher and moved into prison ed from schools. Worked there for 3-4 years.

I have taught in EBD schools and PRUs- would never go back to mainstream.

I think you should make your mind up when they offer you the job Wink send the form and keep your options open.

And good luck Smile

Thanks for the replies, it is 15 - 18 year old boys, I submitted CV and am now waiting for a reply from the YO. Want to go and look round as I can't make the decision without that. Spoke to a friend who was a prison officer there and he was very positive about the place.
Will keep you informed.
