And I’m that country bumpkin….sorry!

You too 😮

Ahem, Californian here. And whilst the tobaccy we smoke here may be 'wacky', the vast majority of us here are not.

We may be less overtly nonchalant than our NYC compatriots, but we certainly can spot a couple of posers when we see them. Hence HAM's 'reverse freedom flight'.

😂 I’m sure you can!

Sorry for generalisation, Across!

One of my ancestors crowned Lady Jane Grey. He got burned at the stake for his efforts.

It's the sort of thing I was impressed by and proud of as a kid, but as a mature adult, he's just another schemer who manipulated a teenage girl resulting in her death.

But, Blimey, he paid for it, TheNinkyNonky.

I was traumatised when I first heard about medieval executions - and I know that word has been trivialised - but I still have intrusive thoughts every day even now about them. I have not been able to read certain books or watch certain films as a result.

Of all of them I think burning was the most appalling. Women were executed this way because apparently it would affront public decency to hang, draw and quarter them - requiring their bodies to be naked. Well, we can’t have that, can we?

My husband was related to a Catholic priest who was executed horribly in the late 1500s. People certainly paid for their crimes in those days…and loads of them hadn’t done anything at all, of course. Ugh.

Heh. I’m in Tetbury, parked on a one hour space and photographed by traffic warden as I got out (you don’t often see traffic wardens here but every so often they do a profitable swoop). So I’m on a timed
mission and the pavement blocked by American tourists. 🤦‍♀️😓

Are you near the wine shop?

But also, can you imagine the row if a parking warden photographed the royal Harry’s car?

It seems quite unnecessary for the security guard to be pushing people in the video from NYC. Nobody seems to be noticing H. I would be bloody fucked off if I got a shove for that twat.

Absolutely! My first reaction would be to swat his silly arm out of the way.

IcedPurple · 23/09/2026 15:46

HoldMyWine · 23/09/2026 15:07

Yes if he pushed or hit me, I’d be reporting him to the police for assault.

Same.

You often hear people say that Harry managed fine in California without official police protection because his 'security team' is armed, which isn't possible in Britain. However, they're still private citizens with no special privileges and no access to intelligence. It's not like that dude shooing random passersby away can pull a gun or anything. Not that he'd need to because nobody cares about Harry.

A previous poster asked about Harry being in New York for the Clinton event. Photos taken from x this morning. He appears to be hurriedly walking on the sidewalk, perhaps on his way to the venue??

What a tool 😂(which was my adjective for Meghan going to the pub with a bodyguard yesterday, too!). That entourage, especially in UNGA week, is so completely and utterly "look at me!!". It's the real life, 2026 version of South Park's "worldwide privacy tour". NOBODY gets attention in the city. I've walked past Ethan Hawk, Matt Damon, Salman Rushdie, the Japanese princess who "abdicated" and many others and had to have them pointed out to me by DH after the fact (not least because none of them look the same in the flesh). The only people who garner attention are the Clintons and Obamas and Taylor Swift these days, because they come with security details who are allowed to block sidewalks. In NYC, they all get a pass and the Obamas are still loved so tend to be cheered and thanked. Mamdani can walk down the street with his detail with less fanfare than Harry in this clip 😂. Hilarious. And in UNGA week, where average new yorkers are already pissed off enough at the disruption to traffic and by the noise pollution (choppers and sirens all over the place). We all loved Macron for calling Trump from behind a steel barricade at last year's UNGA. And Harry's just walking to a random side-show event 😂

He's paranoid and deluded and putting it all on display for everyone to see. RAVEC are going to look like fools if they give in to his imagination. Seriously, he's a faded, irrelevant, middle-aged son of a monarch with zero impact on the world, who people tolerate because of who his dad is, at best. He's really not what he thinks he is.

I recall having a conversation with my son in law a Dr. He told me that burning to death is a very quick death. That it’s intense suffering for a moment or so then it’s over.

From a historical book that I read it depends which way the wind is blowing.

He's keen to keep alive the fact his eulogy was recognised as "one of the most powerful and influential speeches of the 20th century."

What a self important, pompous, grandiose wanker.
I would like to see a survey of important speeches and see how many name him....not a one I would guess, utter arsehole.
Obviously more important speeches than:
The queen
The kings recent USA speech
Churchill
Martin Luther king
Nelson Mandela
Kennedy
Ricky Gervais golden globes speech
Geldof live aid (personally hate him)
Russell crowe in gladiator 😀
Forest fucking gump!!

There's a scene in I think Wolf Hall when a heretic is being burned and the wind keeps blowing the flames away from him and Cromwell describes him as taking half an hour to die in a 'fiesta of pain.' A lot of people were strangled before being burned - families would slip the executioner some money to do it.

Does the heart go into cardiac arrest? Or is it the smoke?

WilliamsExtraSausage · 23/09/2026 16:18

Thing is, if the flames nibble at your feet and work upwards that can’t be quick?

How did we get on to this?

OrdinaryGingerBloke · 23/09/2026 16:20

Burning to death, à la the witch hunts, is a massive fear of mine. Thanks for in depth discussion. 🤣

Shock and pain leading to cardiac arrest and smoke inhalation, I imagine.

Probably pondering ways to make the Sussexes disappear, (but I doubt even we could be that cruel).

Edit: typo

Most witches in England were hanged. It's a myth they were burned, so relax!

Hanging was for witchcraft, burning was the penalty for women if they'd murdered their husband. That was classed as a petty treason (men being the head of the household and social superior to womens in the way that major treason was against the king as head of the kingdom) so attracted the same penalty as if they'd committed a major treason.

I sometimes wonder how I know this stuff.
