Does Catherine have a different personal style when off duty?

Just seen a picture of Catherine going to church in Scotland with a cream blouse with a collar up to her chin. Probably sensible, it's turned chilly where I am.

I don't dislike Catherine's style.she always looks smart and appropriate for her role.

But, does anyone think that when she's off duty she has a completely different wardrobe. What do you think her personal style is?

I don’t know about now but in the past I’ve preferred her casual style, which I think was country preppy. I don’t like her royal duty style at all because I think it tends to look old fashioned with too many buttons and frills and coat dresses.

For sure I reckon she’s a trackie bottoms girl in the comfort of her own home !

Vespanest · 23/08/2026 19:02

She's still on duty going to church as there is expectations. Her off duty is jeans, white trainers with a favourite of striped tops.

Pedant61 · 23/08/2026 19:03

She probably looks like any other private school mum. But going to church is considered royal duty, and they still stick to the late Queen's rule of a hat for church.

danglethedingle · 23/08/2026 19:07

Don't most people have a work and home wardrobe?

Needmorelego · 23/08/2026 19:07

Yes she goes to Asda dressed in pyjamas and fluffy crocs.

ShetlandishMum · 23/08/2026 19:09

Church is work for her.

Most likely she has a different style being at home without the media and the eyes of the kingdom.

I certainly do. I call my home outfit “My relaxa pants”.

They are voluminous with an elasticated waist and I like to kid myself they’re palazzo pants😂.

IMHO her style is evolving since QE2 died.

She still does the coat-dress and hat thing fir the proper formal stuff like Trooping the Colour and garden parties.

But for the bread-and-butter visits she has taken to wearing trouser suits, which I don't remember her wearing when QE2 was alive. She now is far less dowdy on duty than she used to be .

IMHO

ETA P. S. I just looked up that pic of her today, and that high collar is quintessential Diana in the 1980s.

As a member of the Royal household i can confirm she's a fan of Colleen Rooney's trackies for primark.

I’m pretty sure Kate’s in jeans in private. I bloody hope so, anyway.

They're all just like us when behind closed doors, just with alot more expensive lounge wear!

ABitFab · 25/08/2026 21:43

She will look stunning in anything!

FallenNight · 26/08/2026 06:21

I agree she will look fab in most things. I know my work wardrobe is a smarter. Version of my home wardrobe. Still the same essential style just more or less work appropriate. (I like a dress and I like patterned fabrics). Id like to think that Catherine's home wardrobe is a complete opposite of her work one. Very much a uniform for work and something completely unrecognisable for home. If I had her legs I'd definitely own a few minis!

Whatever she wears I bet it fits her and it's been properly ironed.

PussyGaylore · 26/08/2026 08:34

I bet she wears trackie bottoms except hers will be a cashmere/silk blend.

Cuppachuchu · 26/08/2026 09:19

I reckon she wears outdoorsy casuals. Rugby shirts, padded waistcoats and Breton tops. Also trackies and sweatshirts, like the rest of us.
I did notice she has grown her hair longer, she probs has someone looking after it for her, so why not.

PotolKimchi · 26/08/2026 09:34

I think there are some pap shots of her which shows that she wears jeans, a top and a jumper. I think her outfits for pseudo sporty events are probably reflective of her casual outfits.

Can't imagine her sat at home in her jammies, unwashed, greasy hair, eating Doritos and watching morning telly somehow 😄

Dandeloosha · 26/08/2026 09:40

I imagine she looks like she walked out of Crew - jeans, striped rugby shirts and t shirts, gilets, and cable sweaters.

bafta16 · 26/08/2026 15:25

Coat dress? such a weird thing.

tarheelbaby · 11/09/2026 19:24

I think we've seen it in the pre-William photos and the 'casual' photos they have released. It was more Kate Moss/rock'n'roll before the press started chasing her.

I think MN would call it 'off-duty toff'. It's a bit Boden but with a few luxury and bargain twists. Not quite as rock'n'roll as Kate Moss but headed that way: gucci bikini + primark towel with Gap tote - but somehow totally on trend. It feels instinctive to me.

Nowadays, she often wears jeans and a top plus (bougie) plimsolls/wellies. For the polo, she wears a lovely summer dress and espadrille wedges - practical and fashionable.
She favours 'delicate' jewellery - check out her engagement photo call and look at all the personal rings she's added to her 'stack' - these are all micro compared to Diana's big sapphire. She also wears modern jewellery but these are all modest - e.b. Mappin & Webb, Merci Maman.
Any time she wears 'big' jewellery it's for work and she avoided that until she became POW. (it's out of character for her, but I think she wanted to wear a big tiara/crown for Charles' coronation)

  • and 'fashion' jewellery. She knows how to add a big necklace to a boring dress (meeting with Michelle Obama)
Luckily, she looks good, if not fantastic, in anything she choses. If the dress looks bad, that's on the dress, not Kate. That said, lately, she's looking so very thin lately and her usual shapes are not as good for her as they have been. I blame her stylists - they should be steering her towards better shapes.
SpottyAlpaca · 11/09/2026 19:28

Of course not, she always wears ball gowns & tiaras for dropping the kids at school, going to the gym then a quick trip Waitrose on her way home. Obviously. 🙄

Londonmummy66 · 11/09/2026 19:32

Jeans trainers breton t shirt much of the time.

BasilandTom · 11/09/2026 19:45

I can’t talk about her recently but in the days of her dating William, I would see her in Waitrose wearing skinny jeans, some kind of stripy top / oversized shirt and sort of loafers / boat shoes. Green Barbor type jacket and a baseball cap. She also used run around Kensington Gardens. I don’t know if her style has changed much in recent years but she definitely knew when to dress down and when to don ‘the uniform’.
