Since I finished off the last one by accident here is a shiny new 999 posts which might last us until the end of the heatwave

Oh FFS @corblimeygvnr - that ring snippet ( whilst funny ) is awfully disturbing.
Although when I ever watched something scary when I was younger on the TV , my mother would say , don't forget there is a man behind the camera filming this , so it can't actually be that bad. Although perhaps some of M's output ....😂
It didn't stop us going together to lock the back door after watching the original of "The Haunting".

There's a rival now on AppleTV Widow's Bay where the Sea Hag tries to kill Matthew Rhys by sitting on his face 😂

I had no idea what was going on there.
I'm very grateful for the explanation 😂

I’m both conflicted and confused!!🫤

They’re frankly the sort of arguments that clever monarchist strategists might come up with, to (a) make Republic supporters look even more mental, (b) drop hints that the Sussex PR machine is behind it all, and (c) drum up even more sympathy and support for William and Catherine Wales.

But I do actually think it’s the dense sugary lot surfing in on the spite of the principals.

Tom Sykes (I think it was) said the attack bot activity on SM has sky rocketed since the “announcement” of MM’s return. I reckon that’s what we are seeing.

jeffgoldblum · Today 00:22

Well I’m assuming if Charles has opened his finances to scrutiny, then ham cannot pretend they are getting anything from him!!

Regarding the post by @squeakydinosaur on the last thread,
Yes, Rachel Johnson did say Mehgan was exotic -but I’m pretty sure that she meant it as a compliment .
When you read it in context she was comparing Meghan to the Windsors, showing Harry in derogatory terms. “thicken their watery thin blue blood and pale Spencer skin and ginger hair with some rich and exotic DNA” implying that she would bring something exciting, needed and beautiful to the mix.
What would you (coll) prefer to be called ? ‘Pale and watery’ or ‘rich and exotic’.
Theres plenty of evidence of famous beautiful white dark haired women being called ‘exotic’ so I’m still unsure why there was such a hoo-ha.

You're not sure why being called exotic is never taken as a compliment by black women because you haven't bothered educating yourself about perceptions of black women in western - and in particular American - society from the 1600s on, and the way those perceptions impacted the lives of those women and continue to impact them.

The experience of white women with dark hair or eyes or tanned skin is utterly irrelevant.

Please don’t presume to speak for all people of any gender, race, region, religion or origin.

It is not valid, and not helpful.

Huh, I just polled my two daughters, both African Americans, they said being called exotic would be a compliment. Sooo you might need to poll more African American women. Maybe seek out ones confident and secure in their looks and body, and what makes them unique and beautiful.

It's pretty obvious. New names, same script.

It's a pity because I enjoy discussions on monarchy that are factual and/or philosophical.

As I said elsewhere at this point I'm expecting a thread entitled William is smelly and dresses badly any day now.

William picks his nose and eats it.
William pushes grannies over.
William eats babies.
The possibilities are endless.

Just asked DD, who is black and British/South African. She pointed out that people (especially teenage girls!) can turn 'nice dress' into an insult if said in the right tone of voice and with an eye roll and snigger.

She doesn't think 'exotic' is problematic in itself, it is complimentary.

It can, like many words, be used in a sneering or sarcastic way to make it insulting.

Just one person's opinion, of course, but then 'black people' are not one homogeneous lump, are they?

Fromhere1 · Today 07:51

I had a look at the other threads and I recognise the posting style of one particular one....but the negativity is odd. When you say 'they are bots' does it mean there is a real person tying the comments or is it some sort of AI program? I'm hopeless with technology.

It all has the ring of “William is alarmingly bald” doesn’t it. Similar flavour in these attacks, but at least the bald part is true I suppose.

Probably a mix of AI and people.

It used to be what was called astroturfing - people who were paid by PR companies to create what looked like real opinions or a grass roots campaign.

Then with the internet you get all that online plus governments either stirring the pot - Russia and brexit is well documented for example, or just propagandising - China or Dubai springs to mind.

With AI/LLMs all that is easier so if you wished you could run dozens of different Mumsnet accounts and post/create dozens of threads.

So basically it will be mix of automated accounts, paid people and nutters!

During the Kate Hate, someone cleverer than me spotted that some new names were What3Words locations in Russia. Confirmed by MN not only deleting the posts, but zapping all trace of the posters.

It really was! I do wonder how many others there were posting under other, not quite as obvious names.

I wonder if today’s announcement that KC3 won’t ever live at Buckingham Palace and it is effectively a public venue to host events - will get up H&Ms nose - if that’s where they were offered to stay?

I think Harry said he wouldn't stay there because of security fears because it's a recognisable building. Hard to believe he's that stupid, but yes, he actually said that.
