India Hicks, her daughter, has posted the passing of Lady Pamela on her Instagram account. I feel very sad even though I didn’t know her. Lady Pamela was one of the last few links to the old style monarchy, HMTLQ, her cousin Prince Philip, the last days of the Empire (as History, not that I agree with it). Lady Anne Glenconner is probably the last one left from that era.

I will miss India posting videos of Lady Pamela’s anecdotes. RIP, a lady with fascinating tales.

I met her and Lord Mountbatten as a young teen in the early 70s. She wore a massive hat. I was in the Girls Nautical Training Core, she was the patron. It was a really funny and bizarre encounte LP was very sweet to me though.

That’s amazing and lovely to hear. What was Lord M like?

@FarqueueHall Me and the GNTC plus Sea Cadets had to stand around looking vaguely naval at some commemoration. He came up to me and said do you know Lady Pamela (as if!). Then said oh you must meet her she is your patron. Thought yeah right. Then he went over and got her whilst she was speaking to all these high ranking people and she said I am so pleased to meet you, and shook hands with me. I felt like royalty.

Lady P was fabulous - she will be a great loss. There at the partition of India, QEII's wedding, and her Accession, in Kenya. Had to cope with fairly bonkers parents (Lady Edwina was, shall we say, somewhat scandalous and once forgot where she'd left her children when she went off on a trip with a lover!).
I think Lady P's husband could also be quite tricky.
Of course, she was probably one of the last from that old world, proper top drawer and related to most of the European royals. God bless her!
