Duke of Sussex & Others vs ANL: thread 4

1000 replies

bluegreygreen · 12/05/2026 17:19

This is the fourth thread discussing the case Prince Harry (and 6 others) brought against the Daily Mail (Associated Newspapers Limited; ANL) for alleged unlawful information gathering (UIG).

The claimants are: Prince Harry (PH); Doreen Lawrence (DL); Liz Hurley (EH/LH); Elton John (EJ); David Furnish (DF); Simon Hughes (SH); Sadie Frost (SF).
They are represented by David Sherborne (DS).
The defendant (ANL) is represented by Anthony White (AMW).

The threads to date have been thorough discussions of the evidence (so far as we were able to obtain it), with posters giving links and explaining their views. We have mostly kept things civil by avoiding partisan discussions on specific Royal Family members, and trying not to be derailed from the topic of court proceedings.
The case has concluded and we are now awaiting the judgement from Judge Nicklin.

We have also included (when things slowed with the title case) other cases or discussions with a specific theme of free speech/press freedom, particularly when related to those with money or power preventing others from speaking.

One current ongoing case is that involving @GwendolineFairfax8 - some details towards the end of thread 3.
The case is in court this week and is likely to be reported on at the end of the week.

Whoop whoop

JoanChitty · 07/07/2026 14:18

So at last Harry has been metaphorically slapped around the back of the legs and told NO !

Lunde · 07/07/2026 14:18

All cases dismissed!

meercat23 · 07/07/2026 14:18

Having followed here discussion here during the hearing I couldn't see that any of them had proved their claim. Some of the tactics of the claimants legal teams also sounded more than a bit off

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 07/07/2026 14:19

Funnily enough Farage is claiming he needs his dodgy money for security - he should meet Harry for a blokey pint about their woes.

Thedom · 07/07/2026 14:19

A lot of reputations lost too, not just the case.

Recklessismymiddlename · 07/07/2026 14:20

Explains why some of his supporters have been a tad quiet today.

Im sure it will all start up again soon.

Justdancevance · 07/07/2026 14:20

Looks like Elton John will be back on tour

IcedPurple · 07/07/2026 14:20

Duke of Epic Fail.

Passingthrough123 · 07/07/2026 14:20

The absolutely correct verdict. Now, who has to pay all the legal costs?

Justdancevance · 07/07/2026 14:21

Nigel is now doing a Harry,

Passingthrough123 · 07/07/2026 14:21

Now we know why Hugh Grant sloped off.

MrsLeonFarrell · 07/07/2026 14:21

BBC stream switched to Harry's speech. So frustrating and Nigel is still wanging on

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 07/07/2026 14:22

Justdancevance · 07/07/2026 14:21

But apparently Farage is now saying that he at least has never mentioned his daughter? I mean, I didn't know he had a daughter, so he has a point.

Thedom · 07/07/2026 14:19

A lot of reputations lost too, not just the case.

At least Harry hadn't got much of one left to lose, Thedom, but this really is a wholesale "fail"

We're all human and I can't imagine Nicklin's too happy about the court time it's taken, given we now know the claimants had no evidence, but I wouldn't want to be in a room with Harry right now

It's my birthday this month as well.

I'll take the same birthday gifts.

Happy birthday to all those with a birthday this month, 🎁🎉

Happy Birthday, July people!

Interesting juxtaposition of Farage and Harry

SereneFinch · 07/07/2026 14:23

A shame for the defendants but if you can’t prove it, you can’t prove it.

HoldMyWine · 07/07/2026 14:24

I would have been very surprised to have seen any of them win based on the evidence I read in the press and the conversations we had on here. This is going to cost Harry dearly but I’m sure he will have some mealy mouthed clapback ready. It certainly won’t be his fault for sure 🙄

A shame for the defendants but if you can’t prove it, you can’t prove it.

It would only be a shame if they were actually subject to illegal hacking, which they failed to present evidence of. Instead they gave lots of evidence of people around them leaking.

Taken from the DM:

The trial judge, Mr Justice Nicklin, accepted that every article complained about was lawfully sourced.

So if every article was lawfully sourced - David Sherborn looking possibly negligent right now?
As we have said on here from the beginning, this was never supposed to go to trial, ANlL was supposed to settle - they didn't.

Dizzierblonde · 07/07/2026 14:24

I'm just wondering if he'll dare to declare his victimhood in front of an IG crowd. You know, men and women who's lives and bodies have been damaged by actual war. I'm sure he's itching to declare it an establishment stitch up. Can't wait to see the total radio silence from his supportive wife either.

binkie163 · 07/07/2026 14:24

Air punch✊
🍿 Ready for daily mail to unleash on the little twat. They all truly deserved this totally driven by greed and wanting to gag the press. Obviously EJ won't care as he can afford it, the others can't.
Bloody hell if I was ANL I would want to sue them for defamation. The burglary accusations were dropped as the judge said it will backfire on them making bold criminal claims they couldn't prove.

I wonder what the future holds for Sherborne, he really stuffed this up

MauveLibrary · 07/07/2026 14:26

So Harry and the other claimants are now on the hook for substantial legal costs?
