Duke of Sussex & Others vs ANL: thread 4

1000 replies

bluegreygreen · 12/05/2026 17:19

This is the fourth thread discussing the case Prince Harry (and 6 others) brought against the Daily Mail (Associated Newspapers Limited; ANL) for alleged unlawful information gathering (UIG).

The claimants are: Prince Harry (PH); Doreen Lawrence (DL); Liz Hurley (EH/LH); Elton John (EJ); David Furnish (DF); Simon Hughes (SH); Sadie Frost (SF).
They are represented by David Sherborne (DS).
The defendant (ANL) is represented by Anthony White (AMW).

The threads to date have been thorough discussions of the evidence (so far as we were able to obtain it), with posters giving links and explaining their views. We have mostly kept things civil by avoiding partisan discussions on specific Royal Family members, and trying not to be derailed from the topic of court proceedings.
The case has concluded and we are now awaiting the judgement from Judge Nicklin.

We have also included (when things slowed with the title case) other cases or discussions with a specific theme of free speech/press freedom, particularly when related to those with money or power preventing others from speaking.

One current ongoing case is that involving @GwendolineFairfax8 - some details towards the end of thread 3.
The case is in court this week and is likely to be reported on at the end of the week.

A question for regular posters on the thread:

We're now into the last 30 posts of this thread.
Now that the judgement has happened, do people want me to set up a new thread when this one is finishing (to cover the costs hearing / any possible appeal / ongoing fallout etc)?
Or should we leave things now to merge in with the other threads?

I'm happy to set up a new thread if people think it's still worth having a separate one.

Yes, please!

Guardian story saying Harry will not see DL out of pocket
https://archive.is/pg2la

My only comment is that I hope she has it in writing.

It wouldn't matter if she'd got it signed in blood, bluegreygreen

I could easily believe that Harry tried to reel her in with promises that her costs would be paid, but if it comes to it and Harry's unwilling or unable to pay she'll be flicked aside as so many have been

Someone else suggested she might have proof of his promises and could use it to damage him, but what can she possibly say that's worse than what's already happening?
All she'd do is damage her own reputation, and since that's taking quite a battering already I doubt she can afford to

I would like one please. There’s often a lot of HAM noise in general and I personally like the separation of this specific issue. Especially as the cost issue is still to be determined.

Same here - the discussions on this have been excellent and it's good to have it separate from the general noise about the ghastly pair

I've seen some on social media claiming there will be no payments whatsoever because of insurance and no win no fee whilst simultaneously praising Harry for covering Doreen costs.

I can't see that there are zero costs in a no win no fee agreement.

Yes please to a new thread, whilst at times it overlaps it is about more than the Hams.

thenightsky · 09/07/2026 20:19

It doesn't matter whether Harry promised to pay her costs or not, he'll lie and say he never said that and it was the Briddish press twisting things.

Guest385 · 09/07/2026 20:46

Yes please to a new thread, fascinated about the finances on this case. I can imagine the DM won’t hold back in coming forward.

Noodledog · 09/07/2026 21:00

Maybe Hackedoff should pay for DL, since they were the ones behind her being headhunted for image reasons.

BasiliskStare · 09/07/2026 21:11

@bluegreygreen One more to say I would like an ANL case thread to be about that specifically . I think there will be enough to talk about without general H&M stuff.

Recklessismymiddlename · 09/07/2026 21:19

Another yes please

bluegreygreen · 09/07/2026 21:27

Thank you all.

We seem to have plenty of posters who still feel there should be a separate thread for the ANL case, so thread 5 is here:

ETA Not quite at 1000 posts, but I do have some things to do tomorrow, so thought I'd better do it tonight!

Bit late but yes another yes for a separate thread to continue. Thank you.

Totalmayhem · 09/07/2026 21:40

The link to the new thread isn’t working….? Just me or a wider issue?
