Duke of Sussex & Others vs ANL: thread 4

bluegreygreen · 12/05/2026 17:19

This is the fourth thread discussing the case Prince Harry (and 6 others) brought against the Daily Mail (Associated Newspapers Limited; ANL) for alleged unlawful information gathering (UIG).

The claimants are: Prince Harry (PH); Doreen Lawrence (DL); Liz Hurley (EH/LH); Elton John (EJ); David Furnish (DF); Simon Hughes (SH); Sadie Frost (SF).
They are represented by David Sherborne (DS).
The defendant (ANL) is represented by Anthony White (AMW).

The threads to date have been thorough discussions of the evidence (so far as we were able to obtain it), with posters giving links and explaining their views. We have mostly kept things civil by avoiding partisan discussions on specific Royal Family members, and trying not to be derailed from the topic of court proceedings.
The case has concluded and we are now awaiting the judgement from Judge Nicklin.

We have also included (when things slowed with the title case) other cases or discussions with a specific theme of free speech/press freedom, particularly when related to those with money or power preventing others from speaking.

One current ongoing case is that involving @GwendolineFairfax8 - some details towards the end of thread 3.
The case is in court this week and is likely to be reported on at the end of the week.

Hello all, just joining this new thread - thanks for setting up, @bluegreygreen
Thoughts also to @GwendolineFairfax8 and her case.

You might be interested to know that ANL is expecting a judgment around the end of the month (May). I'm assuming they've had a heads-up. To say they are confident is something of an understatement....

Ohh interesting! Thanks

I bet the Daily Mail has a plethora of “what we couldn’t tell you while the trial was running” stories to release in the event ANL is victorious.

bluegreygreen · 19/05/2026 10:26

Thanks @PrayForMyBum - that's good to know re timing.

(I may have been refreshing the judiciary.uk judgements page every day.)

Thank you for this update @PrayForMyBum- that’s exciting that it will be sooner rather than later - can I ask where you heard this info?

Also very best of luck to @GwendolineFairfax8- I was once involved in a case against a big corporation and it’s very emotionally challenging. I had no idea of the shenanigans involved.

PrayForMyBum · 19/05/2026 11:31

@Twisterr from someone inside ANL. Lots of behind the scenes prep work going on. Of course, just because that's what they're anticipating doesn't mean it'll happen, but I'd assume their lawyers will have some idea of the expected timeline.

Twisterr · 19/05/2026 11:45

THANKYOU @PrayForMyBum- my uninformed guess is that a very quick decision from the judge indicates a fail for PH and chums as again in my uninformed observation their case looked very weak.

Does anyone have any idea of likely timeline for scheduling of Sentebale case? This could be PH’s very own annus horribilis…..

BillyBites · 19/05/2026 13:14

Whine

’Behind the scenes prep
work’ for what though? What needs prepping for the judgement?

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 19/05/2026 13:27

All sides will have an idea when judgement is handed down! It means absolutely nothing.

bluegreygreen · 19/05/2026 14:17

Prepping for stories they want to run as soon as the judgement is out?

Prepping for the reaction of the other side?

OP posts:
Indianrollerbird · 19/05/2026 14:25

They will get an embargoed judgment in advance of it being released to the public. Gives them time to look for errors, consider an appeal and how their PR will spin the result. Considering the number of claimants, and the possibility of partial victories, victories, partial losses, whole losses, they will probably need to make different statements with regard to each. They will want all their ducks in a row before the result hits the public sphere.
