You'd have to feel sorry for 14 year old Isla Phillips - she is now being touted as the next 'breath of fresh air' for the RF. Wonder how her older sister feels about being ignored.

Is it because she's just turned 14 (according to the article)? I am wondering if there's a deal where the press won't feature royal kids until the reach a certain age because she's had attention from other media outlets recently too? Although there's also an article on the same website saying that Kate and William's children are the royal family's secret weapon for distracting attention from Andrew. What a load of nonsense!!!

CookingFatCat · 03/04/2026 13:30

Pointless ridiculous boring article about a little known ‘royal ‘.

Foxytights · 03/04/2026 13:38

I’ve no idea why they’re focusing on Isla now, but she’s very pretty so I imagine the attention on her is only going to grow.

ShamedBySiri · 03/04/2026 15:12

Growing up in the public eye is difficult for anyone and I feel sorry for them both as well as other young royals. I happened to see something posted somewhere - I honestly can’t remember the details, it wasn’t something I was looking for - where there appeared to be messages from her friends begging each other not to post that picture of Savannah as she was mortified. I assume probably relating to some drunken party shenanigans or similar. No photo has emerged so hopefully her friends rallied round though I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two have quietly tucked it away for a rainy day.

No pratfall will go unremarked. I’m old enough to remember the headlines when (then) Prince Charles and some school mates snuck into a pub. Charles didn’t know what to order but remembered his Granny was partial to Cherry Brandy so that’s what he ordered. There was much hilarity and ribbing in the press about his choice of drink. I wasn’t old enough to drink but knew enough about my parents’ drinking preferences and occasional trips to the local pub for chicken in the basket when my older siblings might get a half of shandy or cider to recognise that it was a very odd choice. Even 7 year old (or thereabouts) me joined in with the laughter.

And what if they say something unfortunate?

When I was about 8 or 9 the lady in the village shop invited me to see her garden. I was ushered past the till and into the garden. It was gorgeous. A proper cottage garden full of flowers, banks of delphiniums that sort of thing. I grew up on a farm and we did have quite a big garden but it was all bare lawn plus vegetable patch with a few sad roses under the windows, the rose bed pebble dashed with large lumps of horse manure.
I opened my mouth to say “It’s much nicer than ours”. But somehow I said “Ours is much nicer”!🤦‍♀️
The smile froze on her face, I was hustled back into the shop and never spoken to again. I still feel the shame! There were no apologies I could give at the time that would take those words back.
Can you imagine if any of the young royals committed a similar faux pas?
If/when the time comes I for one will sympathise.

CathyorClaire · 03/04/2026 21:04

I don't want to be unkind about a 14 year old who undoubtedly hasn't asked for this kind of spotlight but isn't she exactly the kind of irrelevant adjunct a much touted slimmed down monarchy and its cheerleaders should be downplaying?

Nauseating piffle.

ThePoshUns · 04/04/2026 08:38

Poor girl. It’s a bit creepy for the press to be writing about a 14 year old child. Leave her alone.

I second this and think this thread should be removed. My daughter is 14 and it is such a vulnerable age - the public don't need to know anything at all about her.

GloriaHeeler · 04/04/2026 15:21

royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said that although Isla’s received “little attention” compared to other royals, “she is likely to make her mark on royal life.”

I mean, what a pile of pants that is. And that is the main part of the article. It’s totally meaningless. This bloke needs to get a proper job that isn’t ‘royal commentator’. What a ludicrous profession.

FloridaCheese · 04/04/2026 21:03

They're using her to pave the way for Charlotte's incessant press coverage once she comes of age

CrocusesFlowering · 04/04/2026 22:51

I think you’re right @FloridaCheese
Charlotte has already featured on the front page of Hello for her kindness and the impeccable manners inherited from her mother.

Creepy to focus on young girls.

VictorianChic · 05/04/2026 08:40

Royal commentator is a joke of a job, and it’s a bit weird that this man is writing about this child.

Yep. The only time I see Hello mag is at the dentist and a while back they had Princess Charlotte 'blossoming' in her royal role and a pic of her on the front. As a girl who is probably going through puberty I find coverage of the Wales kids quite revolting.
Ditto Isla Phillips

FloridaCheese · 05/04/2026 19:33

It's awful for these young girls. Hopefully if we ignore and look away, there will be no market for it and it will stop

LazyCatLtd · 05/04/2026 19:44

I feel really sorry for Peter Philips about to be step daughter. Imagine being thrust into that circus . The media are poring over her too. It’s disgusting. Funny how the boys don’t get that sort of attention. If I was her mother I would not want her in the public eye at all.

HoraceCope · 05/04/2026 20:17

she looks super confident

oh no, i have got the wrong one, it is Savannah who looks super confident.

Bea's stepson has also been paraded on the Christmas pap walk.

I suppose (hope!) these children wouldn't be there if the ex's hadn't agreed but it does make me wonder firstly that they presumably do and what their reasoning for it might be and secondly what purpose having these rather irrelevant littlies who can't consent to their showcasing has for the royals.

ajandjjmum · 11/04/2026 13:22

Can you imagine what would be written if the step children were excluded!

simpsonthecat · 11/04/2026 14:22

If I was mother of said stepchild, I would be insisting on no pap walk

Tricky when you have a teenager who will very much have their own ideas of what they want to do or not do I imagine. Although the downsides are clear - I see the Daily Mail has sniffed out Harriet Sperling’s former father-in-law (though long estranged from his family - she would never even met him while married to his son) and “persuaded” him to do a story for them.

(By which I mean it reads like they tracked him down, doorstopped him, and said you either give us a story and we’ll make you sympathetic or we’ll write about you anyway and the gloves are off. So charming…)

simpsonthecat · 11/04/2026 14:51

I meant that little Wolfie boy, not a teen...
Agree more difficult with teens but I'm surprised Edo ex agrees to him being paraded around

Yes, I mean who buys Hello mag now? I think younger generations are less interested and the market will shrink.

I don't think anyone would notice or give it any thought TBH.

Even if they did it's quite likely they either wouldn't care or would approve on the grounds of the much vaunted but never much in evidence slimming down we've been promised.

Although James Wessex got quite a bit of coverage last weekend. That was creepy too.
