Or it may have been the A30, somewhere the Cornwall side of Devon anyway, travelling eastwards. I've never seen a police escort like it! Did anyone else come across it? I assume it was a royal, but I've passed Charles's entourage before and it wasn't quite as heavy-duty as that. This must have been around 10 vehicles, speed limit but lights going.

Charles and Camilla were near me in Scotland yesterday, so definitely not them.

NigellaDelia · 25/03/2026 11:40

We had a convoy go through our city at rush hour a couple of weeks ago with police motorcyclists blowing whistles etc etc

I checked to see if any royals were visiting our city (we have a military base here so often have royal visits) but a friend told me it was a police training exercise!

snowibunni · 25/03/2026 11:43

Trump ?
Likely a training exercise as per pp

MissBattleaxe · 25/03/2026 11:44

I'm intrigued. An entourage bigger than the KIng heading away from Cornwall?

Rick Stein? He's rather grand these days.

Cornishseasick · 25/03/2026 11:47

The king and queen were visiting Cornwall yesterday as per above news article 💐

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 25/03/2026 11:51

Curiouser and Curiouser! How did they manage to be in Scotland and Cornwall at the same time - impressive feat!

I wonder what the purpose of such a big escort is. It seemed unnecessary.

@SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter they are the royals - the epitome of "unnecessary" ☺️

FrenchandSaunders · 25/03/2026 11:56

I see a lot of this when I'm working in London.
I always think it just draws attention to the person they're trying to protect.

If they slunk by in a normal car nobody would look twice.

Dearover · 25/03/2026 21:05

They were definitely in Cornwall in my home town with pints of St Austell Brewery's new alcohol free beer.

Edit: They had to get back to Windsor as Charles was seeing the PM in the evening

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 26/03/2026 06:19

I wonder why they don't go by chopper?

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 26/03/2026 06:25

And yes, the convoy 100% draws attention! If they were tootling along in a Toyota or something nobody would look twice!

I'm also intrigued to know what they do about loo breaks. Do they all descend on the services en masse, or do they have strategically placed private properties to see to their needs in?

I think they use Police Stations for comfort stops

When the Queen's hearse left Balmoral and headed for Edinburgh, they stopped at a stately home for a break

that is a question I want an answer to. especially as that when you are older you need to go more.

They have strategically placed private properties that they will use en route. Not necessarily owned by the Crown, but the homes of extended family, officials in the Royal Household etc.

And Mumsnetters complain about the odd decorator! Imagine having to put up with 14 assorted coppers traipsing in to use your bathroom! I'm betting they're not all properly toilet trained either!!

If not the royals then a politician or a training exercise.

I hadn't thought about all the coppers using the bathroom tbh. I actually wonder if they set up portaloos for them? Or they might get to use the facilities in the servants quarters. I wonder if they bring their own clean up crew? I have visited a house used by the royal family for comfort stops which is why I know they do this (although it was also mentioned in the coverage of the Queen's funeral when Princess Anne's car had a comfort stop), but I didn't think through the logistics of the entourage or ask about that!

William was using it.
