Will it still go ahead? Given the implosion in the ‘special relationship’.

I wondered this. I doubt it.

I don't think it should go ahead right now - it's worth parking it for a while as it may yet prove to be a valuable carrot to dangle.

JustAnotherWhinger · 06/03/2026 11:23

I think the disagreements will make it even more likely to go ahead.

Trump loves the royals and all the pomp and ceremony that comes with them. He’ll want it to go ahead

Dunglowing · 06/03/2026 11:35

I wonder if KC3 will suddenly have to reschedule due to a spontaneous health issue …..

TurnipsAndParsnips · 06/03/2026 11:41

I think KC3 will have some health setbacks that mean the visit has to be postponed…

Miranda65 · 06/03/2026 11:44

If the British Government want it to go ahead - and I'm pretty sure they will - then the King will have to go.
And I can't see Trump not wanting it - he's a big fan of the British Royal Family.

I'm having serious de ja vu with this thread. Wasn't there a recent KCIII & trump visit that was speculated to be cancelled? Possibly after Trump said what he said about troops in Afghanistan?

bluegreygreen · 06/03/2026 12:14

No, the visit was always due this spring, as part of the events leading up to the 250th year of American independence.

There was online discussion about whether it should be cancelled around the time of Trump's comments.

Foxytights · 06/03/2026 17:15

I think it will go ahead.
The Government wants the soft power of the monarchy (and Trump’s soft spot for it) to help cement relations between the two countries. This is even more important given Trump’s now pissed off with Keir. Trump wants pretty pictures of him looking proud and grand on the 250th anniversary of US independence - with the King and Queen oohing and aahing in admiration. This will make Trump look big and important to his supporters; he loves all that.
