Sometimes happens with cruise ships, if they get a charter of whole ship for example. Never had it happen, but it has been known.

Serenster · 12/01/2026 22:29

The President of the US regularly does the same on the basis of national security. If he is travelling somewhere where he can’t stay in the local US Embasy residence, it is standard practice for a several floors of a hotel to be taken over (the, the floor on which he is staying and then one or two floors above and below it). Anybody who may have booked to stay there at the same time is vetted thoroughly, if their booking isn’t cancelled.

Landlord William flexing his muscle?

ShamedBySiri · 12/01/2026 22:52

Ooh I forgot William now owns Highgrove! 😂

BemusedAmerican · 12/01/2026 22:56

Maybe the High Grove gift shop employees protested. Weren't there rumors that the SS was planting As Ever merchandise in the High Grove store?

bluegreygreen · 12/01/2026 23:00

Hadn't heard that - now that is funny!

Computer says no.

Even if she had sold that much, which she patently hasn’t come anywhere near, her profit would be a fraction of this.

The cost of the product, then the fulfilment itself, and whatever she has to pay to snow commerce. If she made 30% of the revenue in profit I’d be astounded.

I did see something (on X so not necessarily reliable) saying that she and Harry had funded all the stock themselves and they don’t have any investor support because they wanted full control. On the one hand I can picture that given the fiasco that has unfolded with the business so far. But on the other hand I’d be surprised if they put up that much of their own cash into it. Plus I thought Netflix were a partner - although with As Ever not being stocked in their stores, maybe that deal is done?

BasiliskStare · 13/01/2026 12:52

It seems to me new PR for H&M is trying to focus on Invictus / H's security in a way which if H doesn't get his own way - C will be to blame , or ( which I think it is entirely possible ) , if M comes over for the pre-games will be seen as a "win" .If the Highgrove thing is true then I hope C makes them leave phones , iPads etc in that outbuilding he renovated for functions. If Amal and George can make people surrender their phones when they come round for dinner , I'm sure Charles can. Anyway , I suspect this is a lot of flurry from Sussex PR at the moment. But I don't know.

There are many forms of partnership.

It can include cross-promotion, stocking in their stores, social promotion, hog-tying their other contracted relationships into doing the same... All for an agreed %. No money needs to be put up for a partnership relationship. I was under contract with the Welsh Government once and they have a long list of ways in which describe the relationship, when you can and can't use the logo etc.

(The Apprentice 250k investment is similar - they don't get 250k cash, they might get an office worth 10k/year, legal services worth 25k/year, consultancy days, etc. Which is why they often crash out when the support runs out, they haven't made capital.)

Since it came off the back of their production contract, I wouldn't be surprised if there was no additional money from Netflix.

I’ve been on a ship where a group booking of 200 Northern Soul enthusiasts (25% of the passengers) were on board and one of the evening venues was reserved for their use. We were only told this in the first day of the fortnight long cruise.

At least the guests on the Hebridean had the chance to get off!

NewAgeNewMe · 13/01/2026 14:49

Yes I’ve had that before which is annoying! Especially when bumped from dining venues. And such large groups do tend to ‘take over’ which affects the vibe at times.

It was an experience. They kept the poor bar staff up into the late hours then slept off their hangovers on the sun deck. We were too British to mutiny. But there were Looks…

NewAgeNewMe · 13/01/2026 15:32

Infuriating, I know, but I was recently on Cunard's Queen Anne down to the Canaries and they shut the entire covered pool deck for a private event - not once but twice, and one of them on a sea day

Luckily for them the guest list was 90% British - had a lot of Americans been onboard they'd have had major complaints so probably wouldn't have done it anyway - but clearly they took the view that having already got the cruisers' money they could make a bit more

So that's Cunard off my list for the future ...

Ohpleeeease · 13/01/2026 15:48

I vaguely remember a tv programme about the actress Liz Smith taking a cruise on that ship. She was quite an eccentric character. Would have enjoyed the two Lizzes on the same trip!

NewAgeNewMe · 13/01/2026 16:17

Giving @LaMarschallin 😁

Id not be happy about that @Puzzledandpissedoff you are right probably wouldn’t get away with that if lots of Americans on board. One of the reasons I always insist on a balcony cabin.

Probably enough detailing now but an interesting diversion 🚢 🚢

Well that’s another pack of lies - suggesting that The Parents Network is consistent with Archewell’s model of just incubating charities and then pushing them out the nest to independence as they have done with IG and Travelyst …. !!!

Both of these, IG and Travelyst, existed well before Archewell was even a twinkle in H&M eye.

The out right lies of this disingenuous and grifting couple is very transparent.

‘Featuring Meghan’s handwriting’ 😂😂😂

is this the excess inventory from the bookstore Christmas pop up?

ShamedBySiri · 13/01/2026 18:26

47 quid for some peppermint teabags, a jar of honey and one of those (I assume) little magnetic page clip bookmarks. Leather no less!
Honestly I just can't imagine who would be throwing their cash at her for this sort of rip off rubbish. Is there any information about the provenance of the honey? As I've previously mentioned it's very expensive anyway, even by the standards of top brand honey, but I am very fussy about honey, I don't buy anything that might be blended or potentially contain Chinese honey or have sugar syrup mixed in. I nearly always choose UK only, usually Scottish or local producer.
If there's no provenance/traceability on her $28 jar of honey I wouldn't buy it if it was 28cents.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2026 18:35

"Archewell has given ParentsTogether the network's full operational capacity and structure, including systems and processes as well as brand and creative assets, Newsweek understands"

No it hasn't ... at least there was never anything said about what professional input was available to parents in such a sensitive position, as opposed to H&M simply yapping about what pioneers they are and how important it all is Hmm

That said it's surely no bad thing if they're finally ending the pretence of running charities. Everything they touch either goes to sh1t or gets neglected after the initial noise, and these things are better handled by those whose interest lies in the actual cause rather than self promotion

This is rather a random mix.
ETA as a New Year offer, it's a tad on the late side. I know January is never ending but we are halfway through it.
