And it really is such a niche event, the following of the games is abysmal, basically it is only participants families who come as spectators, and I remember watching a live stream of one of the events and there were only a handful of people online watching it. Is it even televised ?

And wasn’t there some controversy about certain media not being allowed at the events? Probably the ones on H&M hit list, I suspect.

Baital · 11/01/2026 14:35

I think it's great that specific groups have organisations and events supporting them. But it needs to be proportionate.

Millions just to stage IG? And participants paying to go?

Surely better to spend more on grass roots support and activities? Think what could be done with £26 million in genuine, day to day support.

I've mentioned this before, Baital, but there are various other initiatives for injured service people, games included

The Paralympics and the Help for Heroes events are the obvious ones, but then there's this which I admit I hadn't heard about: https://worldabilitysport.org/world-abilitysport-games/overview/

As so often, just because Harry grandstands about doing something it doesn't mean he's the only one doing it, or even necessarily the most suitable person to be involved

Edited to add it was ITV/ITVX who televised Invictus last time, @Thedom, and with it being the UK I imagine they'll be in involved with Birmingham if it happens

I think the concept of Invictus was great, but I do wonder if they would be better as an organisation concentrating on the other aspects of their work and then linking in with the Paralympics for the games.

(I have no links to veterans, so apologies to those who have if this is rubbish.)

cockandbullstories · 11/01/2026 17:53

Of course he is.

ThePoshUns · 11/01/2026 17:55

PH manipulative? No way!

ShamedBySiri · 11/01/2026 17:58

I do hope KC and his advisors make it quite clear this won't be happening. Sooner rather than later. I would expect C to be prioritising Camilla's 80th birthday, especially in the light of ungenerous remarks Harry made about her in Spare. He needs to let Harry know in no uncertain terms that has not been forgotten or forgiven.

Trimmernow · 11/01/2026 17:49

Is this emotional blackmail?

Basically it’s a long held dream of PH that KC3 opens IG in 2027. Is he being manipulative and trying to paint KC3 in to a corner by shaming him in public if he declines?

https://www.aol.co.uk/articles/prince-harry-offer-major-olive-144754492.html

Absolutely. Just as with the security nonsense , if H doesn’t get his own way he will throw a tantrum about BP/ the men in grey/ William/ whoever being out to get him.
Even if he gets the security he wants I don’t see Meghan coming to the U.K. . Fear of being booed etc . Plus even she doesn’t have the brass neck to try to cosy up to other Royals .

BillyBites · 11/01/2026 18:25

They're trying to spin this as Harry offering an olive branch????
That's hilarious.
It's the most manipulative thing he's done in a long time.

Mylovelygreendress · 11/01/2026 18:45

How many times over the past few years has H “ offered an olive branch” or publicly said that he wants to reconcile and nothing ever comes of it ? does he think if he says something often enough it will happen ?
Remember the hype around the PR people meeting last summer ( wonder how that leaked out??) and then we had the cup of tea “ turning point” in September.

The poster ( apparently a PR person) who claimed that H and M and W and C would be standing together at Invictus would seem to be wide of the mark .

The idea of H offering an olive branch annoys me. It implies he was wronged and he is being the better person.

ThePoshUns · 11/01/2026 19:41

The only thing Harry can do to improve the situation is to apologise for all the hurt he has brought upon his family. Nothing less.

It's TM long held dream to meet his grandchildren. That's more likely to happen than KCIII opening invictus. On the 12th of never

PlattyCat · 11/01/2026 19:45

At which point did Harry drop his demand for an apology before he returned

The new PR spin will be, surely, that, since he has returned (especially if M accompanies him ), the apology has ben made and accepted.

BillyBites · 11/01/2026 20:07

Can anyone remember which of the Harry televised interviews to camera it was where he said that any reconciliation needed to begin with an "apology to my wife?" I recall him so clearly saying it (in such a pompous manner) but I have trawled through as much of that old tripe as I can bear and can't find it.

Mylovelygreendress · 11/01/2026 20:12

There may have been other occasions .

He also said something like ‘they know what they did’ or something like that which was a bizarre thing to say in a TV interview.

It’s one of the most annoying things about their communications - hinting at things, implying the worst but never actually saying what was done or who did it.

Is it this one ?

The Duke demanded the Royal family apologise to Meghan and used the interview to address them directly, saying: “Because you know what you did, and I now know why you did it. And you’ve been caught out, so just come clean and then we could all move on.”

CathyorClaire · 11/01/2026 20:32

JSMill · 11/01/2026 11:39

Are you serious? I think the Invictus games are a worthy cause but I can’t imagine why council taxpayers money should be spent ‘luring’ it.

Johnny Mercer allocated or was allocated a budget of £26m (UK taxpayer funded) to bid for the games. Birmingham 'won' against a couple of other international contenders but it's very hard to see where, how or why the money got spent.

Birmingham council tax payers will however no doubt be picking up the bill for any incidental expenses occurred despite the council being bust.

CathyorClaire · 11/01/2026 20:44

And I'm unsure why you'd want to know where the £26 million went if the games don't go ahead, ? Personally I'd rather like to know anyway, especially if that was taxpayers' money, but I very much doubt there'll ever be an answer

I agree but as it's been shrouded in secrecy and swept red-faced under the carpet so far I too doubt light will ever be shed on the matter as in so much relating to royal financial murk.

I just want to keep that outrageously obsequious spending in the spotlight and open to question.

BillyBites · 11/01/2026 21:05

Well, he's certainly pompous in those accounts but I can picture him actually speaking the words. So it must have been one of those sit-down interviews. Maybe Tom Bradbury or Stephen Colbert or maybe Anderson Cooper.
