The King tops the list of the royal who carried out most engagements this year.

Not a royalist, but a man in his seventies battling cancer deserves a bit of credit for careying out more engagements than his sister who's generally seen as the hardest working one!

Charles 532 (22%)
Anne 478
Edward 313
Sophie 235
Camilla 228
Duke Glos. 212
William 202
Duch. Glos. 113
Duke Kent 77
Catherine 68

Nice to see KC topping the list, I hope to see William higher up next year, he should be equally 'seen' as Sophie and Edward, or better transparency in what he is doing with his time if he has chosen to do less bread and butter opening and waving engagements. I don't mind the idea of changing the way of working but I want to know exactly what he is doing if it is not meeting and greeting.

thou devil is in the details, remember that William in particular has Dutchy business that isn’t on this list and some engagements take longer than others. I know of someone who hosted an engagement with William this year and it was several hours, which with travel (he had driven there himself) took up a full day, I looked another member and they clocked 4 in 6 hours

William - meeting and greeting important influential people! Soft power.

He's the Head of State and the reigning monarch. I think it's only to be expected.

I very much liked that he took George to The Passage, and continued some of Diana's good work.

I am sure William is doing 'stuff' soft power is important, the environmental stuff helping young businesses is great. But I do want more information about the what and how, because if he is working quietly in the background and not being seen then he looses some of the soft power that comes with the pomp and the being seen and results in him open to criticism for being work-shy. As QE2 said, they have to be seen to be believed. Modernizing the royals will be a tough job, they are not a modern concept! I quite like that, old tradition is important to me.

William came to visit a homeless charity in my town. He was scheduled for one hour, stayed for two. He spoke to all the people benefiting from the charity as well as all the workers. He was very low key.

Maybe if he had no health problems.

He's been having cancer treatment all year, and has only just reduced that treatment.

So I think it's pretty impressive tbh, even if you did go into the detail and found that many of these engagements were smaller ones.

Yes. I know.
My point is that it's only to be expected that he tops the charts. I really respect that he has pushed on and been very engaged, even when challenged by illness and what is always difficult treatment.

Anne did more days though. Depends how you count engagements.

I don't think all the stuff some of the other royals do ie William is included - sure I read that the trip to the passage wasn't on the royal circular. Could be wrong but I suspect it makes KC v happy to be top of the pops ;)
