The royal family

Does Prince Andrew have to become plain Andrew Windsor?

I am a Royalist and firmly believe in a constitutional monarchy. I think that a CM creates stability and is better than a President etc

It seems to me that Andrew ( guilty or not) has done huge amounts of damage to the brand and I think that he needs to become plain Andrew Windsor.

I can’t see any other option if they want to get ahead of the curve.

This thing is growing legs and the ripples could implicate the entire family. It seems to me that even the late Queen’s involvement is being looked at eg Andrew Lownie
discussions on security logs on the relevant night ( non sweat dance / Pizza Hut!) and how they ( PA and SF ) remained at Windsor to avoid being served papers.

Andrew needs to walk the streets as a plain mister or get out there demand a trial and clear his name.

He is destroying the Royal Family brick by brick.

Am I wrong?

He was born a prince by virtue of being the son of the monarch. The title matters less than the perks and privileges that go with it. Those are what need to go.

Would you still bow to him by dent of him being a Prince - not entirely sure that I would.

I think that if he can 'not use' the Duke title, he can also 'not use' the 'Prince' title. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is a perfectly adequate name that would meet all his name-related needs.

BemusedAmerican · 20/10/2025 14:16

If you meet him and don't bow, curtsey, etc he can't do anything to you. Even if he took you to court, I am sure a jury would laugh at him.

I wouldn't bow to any of the RF. It's not obligatory anyway.

RitaIncognita · 20/10/2025 14:19

I think he is still Prince Andrew without the duke title or HRH.

He is but he could 'not use' the Prince title as well. It sends entirely the wrong message.

ageingdisgracefully · 20/10/2025 14:25

It's all a bit muddy, isn't it? Seems that he's agreed to not use his titles rather than be stripped of them. But how does one no longer be a Prince when it's a title one was born with? 🤔.

Bow .. to him …. 😵
in all honesty, I don’t care what he calls himself, he’s a shameless liability, and i think he should be kicked over to the states where he can be held to account for his involvement , and he can take Fergie with him

On the BBC news there is a suggestion that Letters Patent could remove his title, not sure what happens with his daughters though. Him and ferg should quietly leave the country, live overseas and distance themselves completely with no financial help.

ZenNudist · 20/10/2025 15:06

He was friends with a convicted paedophile but there isn't any evidence he was a paedophile himself. Although he denies it it seems likely Virginia G was telling the truth. She wasn't underage to have sex in the UK and it seems she pushed him for compensation over many years. Are we all (probably quite fairly) assuming that if he had sex with one teenage prostitute and attended one orgy at Little St James' Island then he'd probably done it more?

I was in favour of constitutional monarchy but Andrew's behaviour makes them look bad. There seems to be a lot of sex and partying (not just Andrew) and a lot of money buying you whatever you want including young women.

The really ridiculous thing is a lot of his and Sarah' s behaviour seems to be linked to hanging around with unsavoury characters because they want the trappings of wealth. It was the same with Princess Di and Mohammad Al Fayed. It seems like if you can offer royals a nice time on a yacht then your personal morality and proclivities towards assaulting young women can be overlooked.

Andrew and Sarah’s son in law sells properties in Portugal in gated communities. Surely they could just quietly go and live out their retirements there?

… next door to H&M … all of the royal scally berks in the same place…. Behind gates is a bonus too!

@chunkybear The Sussexes don't need to flee like criminals. They're doing fine just where they are. Maybe you need to move 'on'.

I wouldn’t bow to anybody, Prince or no Prince.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/10/2025 16:33

I think "Prince" is more of a description than a title. He's a prince because he is the son of a monarch - it wasn't bestowed on him and it's not something that he can give up, or have taken from him, like "Duke of York" for example.

I do, however, think he should be removed from the line of succession (also Harry).

Dint, not dent.

I would never bow or curtsey to any one of them. I think it’s ludicrous that anyone does.

He will remain Prince Andrew, that won’t change.

Noras · 20/10/2025 16:44

This is not about the Sussexes and please don’t derail this debate.

I am genuine concerned about the future of the Monarchy and feel that more has to be done.

My own opinion is that Prince Andrew has to fall on his sword for the sake of the Monarchy.

He needs to become plain Andrew Windsor. To be a plain Joe is needed now.

My own concern is that he might have had sex with her and he felt that was fine as she was over 17. My concern is that he did not realise that she was not willing / trafficked etc and the thought never occurred because he just is not capable of realising that people might have been forced to have sex with him - if what she says is true.

I have respect for King Charles and William but that will fade if more is not done here and they understand the mood. To me this seems like the Princess of Wales death all over again and the RF not sensing how people feel.

if the alleged gluttony of the Yorks also proves to be true eg banquet meals made not eaten / 24 hour chauffeur etc this seems reminiscent of Versailles in my mind as now we have cuts to disability benefits / people going to food banks etc and seemingly the Yorks were just seemingly booking holidays and not going to ordering their chefs to make several Sunday meats that did not get eaten.

Did Andrew see us all as the plebiscite or the little people?

I’m not sure Portugal would be thrilled to have us empty our royal bins into their country!

Thanks actually looked up the following but let’s not derail this by word choice etf

The complex preposition BY DINT OF means "because of" or “by means of,” and hearkens back to the dent ("dint") made by a blow or strike. It is an archaic word that appears only in this particular phrase. A dint (or dent), caused by a blow, will have a result, as in the stream of expletives that I uttered when I discovered a dent (dint?) in my car. You may use either "by dint of" or "by dent of" correctly in a phrase, though people tend to prefer the former. The main question, however, is why writers don't just use the word "because." By dint of the powers vested in me, I hereby suggest that you let this phrase go, or use it only when necessary.

I’m old fashioned and recognise the Monarch as the head of our CM.

The title Prince can be taken away by the monarch. It's happened before with the Letters Patent of 1917. The title can also be bestowed by the monarch. Edward VII made two of his granddaughters princesses, even though they were his granddaughters in the female line (children of his daughter Louise, Princess Royal).

An act of parliament is required to take away the dukedom.

For many years viewing has been optional and the palace has released information to that effect when people are meeting the family. I doubt Andrew has received bows for some time.
