The royal family

Would it? If it needed gov approval (which I think some title removals do) wouldn’t that have to be official through parliament? This is him giving up the use of the title rather than an act of parliament to remove it - is it any different to Harry and Meghan agreeing not to use HRH? It doesn’t sound like it’s been stripped from him. His statement said “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.”

I think they needed to be kept in the loop. According to the BBC he has basically been pressured into giving up the title voluntarily to avoid having to put an Act through parliament.

CrimsonStoat · 17/10/2025 20:20

To be fair to Charles, he's been trying to get Andrew and his ex wife out of Royal Lodge for some time. He cut off his brother's allowance, and hoped he wouldn't have enough money to pay the rent. Andrew has a lease so I guess he can't just be evicted on a whim.

Personally, I think they ought to go through parliament too, and actually strip him of his titles.

They won't do prince because it puts the rest of the RF in a little bit of not danger, but maybe mild jeopardy. You don't want to show that it's quite easy to get rid of princes and princesses...

hmmnotreallysure · 17/10/2025 20:27

Hmm, makes me think it's preemptive.
Just in time before something else comes out (hopefully the Epstein files).

Sausagescanfly · 17/10/2025 20:27

What is the general mood around his daughters? Are they hard done by or grifters?

They seem to do a bit of middle eastern grifting, but if they're doing it to help their parents then I've got a bit of sympathy for them. Overall, I don't think they're any more grifty than the rest of their relatives - so quite grifty, and possibly extra grifty because of feeling obligated towards their parents.

Totally this^^

Once it can be done for one…

JacknDiane · 17/10/2025 21:48

This means nothing.

He'll still be living a life of utterly luxury.

Surely no one here thinks otherwise?

SoReadyFor · 17/10/2025 21:51

great news.
and I'm happy to add Harry and Rachel to the list now too

Simplestars · 17/10/2025 21:54

Pervert.
Good riddance.

Will he be on universal credit now?

JacknDiane · 17/10/2025 22:09

He still has all his titles he just doesn't use them now..

BIG DEAL!

Laserwho · 17/10/2025 22:13

Good. Hopefully Harry and Meghan next, she will be sweating buckets now.

ShenandoahRiver · 17/10/2025 23:20

I think the Chinese spy scandal is going to cause a lot of problems now.

ShenandoahRiver · 17/10/2025 23:22

@Laserwho
Nothing Harry and Meghan have said or done comes close to the behaviour of Andrew or indeed Sarah.
For decades the RF enabled the Yorks, ignored the warnings about them, looked the other way, swept it all under the carpet until they were forced to see what was going on. Elizabeth was a disgrace in the way she dealt with him.

Edited

But they have still done things where titles can be removed.

Attictroll · 18/10/2025 07:43

He’s still going to have his massive house and be a Prince. Him losing his title Duke of York is awkward but compared to what should happen it’s pathetic- it doesn’t fit the crime imho.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 18/10/2025 07:55

What exactly do you think they have done that’s title stripping worthy?

Why? They have committed no crime. You can't compare leaving the RF willingly or writing about his experience growing in it to abusing under aged girls or selling access to a hostile state agent.
It's ridiculous the two are seen as comparable at all.

Phoenix1Arisen · 18/10/2025 08:06

It feels to me that he has been scapegoated to a very high degree and until the many other wealthy men who also enjoyed friendships with Epstein are similarly hounded, that will continue to be my viewpoint.

Autisticburnouthell · 18/10/2025 08:09

So if he is keeping his titles just no longer using them then surely there is no reason why he could choose to nolonger use the title of prince?

RobustPastry · 18/10/2025 08:12

ugh honestly he’s realised that being a Prince carries internationally and implied being very close to monarch, whereas only a minority of people know that being a Duke is a big thing. So I can’t see how this is a big loss to him though he would want to present that it is. I hope he goes to court and then he’s fairly tried and there can be justice and punishment or he is found innocent.

Exactly the same with Trump who was clearly also very close with Epstein.

Zuve · 18/10/2025 08:15

He do with loosing some weight and choosing his friends very carefully. Time for a change

DidSheJustSayThat · 18/10/2025 08:16

Good news but he needs to lose more. At least Charles has done something, unlike that dreadful mother of theirs.

I don't believe they have done anything to warrant removing their titles.

However, if I were Harry and Meghan i would probably be a little more circumspect about using my HRH, which they aren't supposed to be doing anyway, or attaching my title to a commercial venture in the future. The late Queen was fairly passive but I think this decision is a warning to the whole family to toe the line.

Denmark recently stripped Prince titles from the kings brothers family, downgraded them to counts or something.

Edited to add, as far as I know they hadn't been naughty or punished for something, just a tidy up .
