Wills’ sweet gesture

The headline of this article is so OTT, lol. I just watched the clip - he literally did a normal gesture that anyone would do, nothing sweet or secret about it! Don’t get me wrong, I like Wills and Kate - but the ridiculously sycophantic language in this article and others about them does make me laugh sometimes!

Haha dont expect many people will come comment here they think they can do nothing wrong they probably agree with the headline 😆

HollywoodTease · 16/10/2025 18:33

The one where he pushes her hand away in an irritated manner? I don't think the hack who wrote this knows a thing about body language....

user1476613140 · 16/10/2025 18:35

The couple interacted with each other! Wow!😱 stop press! Totally normal behaviour. Not newsworthy.

Theunamedcat · 16/10/2025 18:39

Considering the stiff publicly formal family he comes from its always a suprise when he acts normally towards here his grandfather always walked behind his wife

ozarina · 16/10/2025 18:39

It's a load of bollocks - I detest the word " sweet" grrrrr 😂

MrsLeonFarrell · 16/10/2025 18:48

It's not sweet or bad, it's just a bit of a confused moment. I don't think William pushed her hand away, from the video he was simply reaching for her hand behind his back, so a bit awkwardly, as she approached him but she'd already decided to go to his other side.

The press really like to make mountains out of tiny bumps in the soil.

Ain’t that the truth!

InSpainTheRain · 16/10/2025 19:24

I think the way William.and Kate are portrayed in some of the papers is ridiculous. It's like they feel Kate needs babying and constant support, whereas she is a confident woman and has had years of schooling in royal.ways. but that's the DM.

wordler · 16/10/2025 19:27

It’s the upswing story arc. William and Kate are in the praise part of the circle.

William did the very popular and well received Eugene Levy interview. Kate’s still a bit untouchable for criticism because of the cancer diagnosis.

So now the tabloids will ride the wave of the positive vibes as that’s doing well for clicks.

We are quite close to Earthshot, Remembrance Day and then Christmas which is always a time for popular William and Kate stories so I expect the downswing will start to happen in about mid January.

Look out for some sort of angry William / family rifts stories to reassert themselves / conflicts about where George is going to school. Something negative about the Middletons again - because I think they are still a bit gun shy about attacking Kate so the Middletons will be proxies if possible.

Although they may go with a ‘family fears for her health / weight issues’.

Up swing will start to happen again for the April/May round of 15th wedding anniversary and kids’ birthday pics.

wordler · 16/10/2025 20:38

Also, because the mainstream tabloids have been so hands off Kate and William after the 'where's kate' / cancer diagnoses backlash I suspect when they are brave enough to go negative, they might go really negative. Especially ITV's Chris Shipp who was almost spitting with rage that William had given a big interview to a Canadian actor instead of a UK reporter. I think he's going to want to make a point.

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 07:13

The Mail have been writing negative stories about William for a couple of months. Hinting at a rift with Charles and implying that it is William who is keeping Harry out of Royal life. This story is part of that. But I agree the upswing will happen soon, partly because their negative stories aren't gaining traction.

QueefofSheena · 17/10/2025 07:15

I don’t understand why people insult on calling a grown man who is a stranger to them by their childhood family nickname.

QueefofSheena · 17/10/2025 07:49

Insist

LaMarschallin · 17/10/2025 08:09

Oh God.
I've grown to hate so many meaningless tabloid journalistic phrases:
Stepping out
Flaunting curves
Wears her tresses in a [some sort of hair style]
Adorable (Charlotte once wore "adorable" hair clips FFS)
and "sweet" is one of the worst especially when combined with "nod to".
Whatever the article is and whoever it's about, you just know it's going to be piffling crap.

Of course it's nonsense. Most commenters here have a really good understanding of how the British mainstream media works in relation to the BRF.

jumpingthehighjump · 17/10/2025 08:27

It's so pathetic. A whole article written on where Kate stood and she touched his back gosh whatever next and then hysterical laughter at every quip William made. I haven't even read the article but every sycophantic one is the same.

I do find the sychronised cooking together very pathetic I have to say.
But that's what Royals do... turn up, look splendid, crack a joke, roll out some pastry and off you go!

This is a nice analysis. It made me smile.

stanleycups · 17/10/2025 08:49

Yes sometimes the gushing is just ridiculous. The way they report on Kate’s interactions with children like she’s this angelic, glowing maternal figure then you click on the article and she’s said something like “My name’s Catherine, what’s your name? Do you like xyz?” Amazing. I like Kate and she clearly is maternal and kids like her but come on!

upinaballoon · 17/10/2025 08:55

I think the gushing and fawning of the papers and TV are often wrongly attributed to the people who don't dislike having a Royal Family.
Edit to say it's time for fetlock/forelock tugging practice. Gotta move.

Exactly - it's so transparent. The Mail is particularly bad for this. As is ITV and the Express.

Apparently though, we're all taken in by the media bias. Ah well, better get back to my cap doffing & forelock tugging practice.

jumpingthehighjump · 17/10/2025 10:28

But people DO love it. Look at those that camp overnight or leave home at 3am to catch a glimpse of the Royal walkabout at Christmas. Lots of people click on this stuff ooooh and ahhhh at it, and nearly have a touch of the vapours at articles about the children. They are just children!

I have a very down to earth friend, massive career before retiring, known her forever and she absolutely loves the Royals. No, she doesn't have tea towels with their faces on or collect memorabilia but of everyone I know it is such a juxtaposition with who she is, her life, how down to earth and sensible she is... and her love of them. Don't get it! Needless to say we never talk about the RF ever!!

My least favourite is the use of "oozing". Celebrities ooze style and confidence apparently. Oozing isn't a good thing, it's gross, pustules ooze, wounds ooze, slugs ooze. Just stop with the oozing.

I have to confess to having a tea towel with the late Queen's face on it, sundry others with the faces of famous folk or buildings and one which was given to me by my old friend and has the face of Pope John-Paul on it. I use them all but I'm never wholly comfortable about drying the pots with a former pope. I grit my C of E teeth and do it, though.

That has been used to knock meghan a lot Beatrice introduced herself as "Beatrice and my nans the Queen" Prince william introduced himself as william and meghan.....told everyone she was the dutchess of Sussex

Bit mean of the press to highlight that
