Some interesting snippets here. He comes across as very sensible, grounded and decent. I was slightly surprised to hear him mention Harry’s name!

Eugene Levy is Canadian, not American.

Yeah I know the actor Eugene Leve is Canadian because he mentions that right at the start of the programme and I have ears and listened. 🙄

However, East Great Falls High, the fictional high school in the American Pie movies, was inspired by the real-life town of East Grand Rapids, Michigan. Which is in America. So, unless Jim was commuting every day all the way from Canada every day to school, Eugene was playing an American dad.

Maybe take your irritating, misplaced pedantry elsewhere?

Chris Ship - iTV Royal correspondent is spitting feathers that William’s most intimate and comprehensive interview to date didn’t go to a UK journalist.

There’s a clip of him asking Eugene why he didn’t ask William about Harry and Meghan and he (Chris Ship) can barely contain his annoyance.

Quite funny to see.

It's pretty hilarious as I'm sure if he'd asked about the Sussexes he wouldn't have got any of the other stuff. Plus at this point William has far more interesting things to talk about.

For anyone who can't watch it The Times T2 magazine has an extensive piece on the programme. Worth a read, if anyone can archive here?

Here we go
Prince William: ‘I don’t want to make the same mistakes as my parents’

In Schitts Creek, which is what he's best known for, he plays a Canadian dad. In Canada.

His comment about fitting his workload around school hours just goes to show how out of touch he is. Most families have to work long hours. He only works the equivalent of 25 full days per year and gets paid millions. He wants less media intrusions so that means more secrecy around their finances and no Freedom of Information requests. Very sycophantic interviewing with no mention of Andrew and Fergie or the Duchy rogue landlords controversy. It was more like spin from the palace press office. People seem to fall for this manipulation and say things like “oh he seems so normal, just like a real human”. Well he is a real human who is given vast amounts of tax payers’ money for doing not much at all.

Absolutely this. He could fit his workload into one school term. What is he doing the rest of the time? Secret work no one knows about apparently!

To say nothing of having all the childcare they could ever need

Exactly! And some posters listing all the stuff he could be doing like red boxes that could be hours a week and all the prep he has to do before he leaves the house for an engagement. If that's the case he doesn't need scores of staff at his beck and call! That's what they're there for!

LidlAmaretto · 03/10/2025 15:59

Considering the Daily Mail today are going nuts over Kate walking down some stairs, the low expectations and over praise of this family is just ridiculous! Why should they do more than the bare minimum if people are telling them that turning up to football matches and chatting to some players is such a strenuous duty to the nation?

padronpepper · 03/10/2025 16:05

I wonder did he discuss this with his dad ? Particularly the statement about the mistakes his parents made.

Jesus. He is DEFINITELY not known for Schitts Creek more than AP. In any event, you decided to focus on this one point out of my original comment and are now arguing the toss about it and derailing the thread. Seriously, just stop.

Runs in the family. Charles did the same!

The staff can't do red boxes for a start. They are highly confidential.

There is no point equating his life to that of someone who works 9-5. I would be interested to know how his work life equates to someone like the Duke of Westminster because there is an amount of parity there but to compare him, as often happens in these threads, to a nurse or someone doing a manual job, is pointless. Maybe a CEO would provide an good comparison but not an office manager.

jumpingthehighjump · 03/10/2025 16:28

"The staff can't do red boxes for a start. They are highly confidential*

I obviously know that! I am talking about how it's been said he could, only could be spending hours on them.

Wow, what an achievement! She should get a medal for that. Typical Daily Mail sycophantic excuse for journalism. I find it weird that the media hold her up as some super human role model, especially regarding early years, when their eldest child doesn’t get a say in his future career choices.

It's simpler than that. Their algorithms show that photos and videos of Kate sell papers and garner more clicks for their online advertising. So any excuse to publish a photo they will do it. Also, eeking out each event into multiple stories - even with no substance - will make them more money.

So you'll have separate stories for - the event itself, her clothes, anything funny or quirky that happened, any 'sweet nod' to her MIL/SIL/late Queen, what people are saying on social media about her etc.

Disbelief No GIF

I am always in awe of the deep concern displayed for the Wales children.

Concern that rarely spreads to wondering how the constant bashing of their parents for no reason will impact them. Daily Mail chooses to print a story based on a clip of The Princess of Wales walking down the stairs, a decision that has nothings whatsoever to do with said Princess, but it is the usual howls of outrage at a total nothingburger. DARVO from the usual suspects, as ever.

But oh well, keep up with the "concern"

”Concern”?? Not concerned, just find it hypocritical.

He hasn't said how. Is he admitting that what they Royals have done for decades and we have been told make them worth having has had little to no impact on people's lives? It still sounds like what he said before- less boring handshaking and small talk with pensioners from Hull (but I'll make an exception for football matches and Wimbledon) same amount spent on my family, houses and staff. No real changes to the structure of the RF. I dont believe he'll do anything at all about that.

Snobbish, patronising and rude.

wordler · 03/10/2025 19:30

Have watched the whole thing now. Was a very interesting interview - came across as a relaxed chat. Very different from the tenseness you can sometimes feel when royals are being questioned by reporters.

Excellent PR move for William, well done communications team for going with this unusual option.

What was interesting was hearing that the production team had a whole different program planned out doing lots of activities in London and expecting to do the Windsor tour with a regular tour guide. They thought they might get a short couple of minutes with William and just have a short clip of him in the programme. Then William's team said he wanted to do the tour himself, they ended up doing the whole day together so they just dumped all the other things they'd planned because they didn't want to cut anything from the interview.

Is he as bright as his dad and grandmother? I get the impression they were slightly more academic than he seems to be. Happy to be corrected.
