If anyone can manage to sit through this podcast between Meghan and Jamie Kern Lima, what are your thoughts about Meghan saying this?
And what are your thoughts on Meghan in general after watching her talking with Jamie here?
I don't know if I'm BU but I pick up on narcissist vibes.

It just very American. They've always been the same. Over the top, gushing and nauseatingly sentimental. To our ears it sounds phony and contrived but it's their cultural way. I expect people are more used to it now because of social media and a lot of young people actually emulate the style but years ago we used to either take the piss out of it or cringe with embarrassment.

Exactly. Any American i have met has been the same in that regard but I sont mind it its a nice change from the foom and gloom attitude of some people I speak to in England.

isuspect you don’t know what narcissistic means! Unless the was she said it made it obvious that it was intended to make people laugh, it’s a bit yuckily cutesy-but not narcissistic.

I don't think it was said to make people laugh if that's what your post is suggesting 🤷‍♀️

MrsEmmelineLucas · 27/05/2025 16:34

Oh. Was she asked how handsome her husband was?

No idea. I’d rather eat wasps that watch the interview. But I assumed she was being asked about her relationships and her family?
I have a friend who always refers to his other half as Handsome Husband….🤣

Foom and gloom?

Foom = a sudden rapid increase in artificial intelligence.

Are the English (only the English?) particularly gloomy about the rapid increase of AI in our lives?

I thought it was unbidden. Which is really central to this discussion.

My thoughts exactly 👍🏻

She’s very persistent isn’t she 🥴

It was. JKL asks MM is they will stay together forever. MM says yes. JKL moves on saying she has a letter. MM interrupts her and says he's a fox. I don't know if you've noticed, but my husband is very handsome. It's a comment plucked out of the air.

However, I don't think it's that big a deal. She spends all the interview going on about how much he loves her and what a great, hardworking mum, wife, entrepreneur she is (ie, she's very lovable). I'm not sure about narcissist, but she certainly has a big ego on her.

Yeah, I wouldn't label anyone "narcissist", but she does have a big ego and really bigs herself up!

GlutesthatSalute · 27/05/2025 17:41

If he was called Kevin and fixed toilets for a living, she'd 100% still be insanely attracted.

workshy46 · 27/05/2025 17:43

Even the Americans who usually lap this stuff up thought it was beyond cringe. The interviewer was way worse though.. it was like you’re so Greta no you’re so great. I actually couldn’t make it thought it .. so so embarrassing

Darkmudder · 27/05/2025 18:36

I watched it. It was absolutely excrutiating. For two very close friends who are deeply emotionally entwined it was soooooooo shallow.

FightingFish · 27/05/2025 18:37

She obviously has a type as her first husband had a similar vibe, build and is also on the ginger side. He definitely isn’t classically handsome though, like most people he is average looking.

Ugly and bitter on the inside - seeps through to the outside

Uricon2 · 27/05/2025 18:56

In defence of Americans, the ones I know/have known (including those from the US branch of the family) are absolutely nothing like the Helium Twins (TM @LaMarschallin , thank you) and Co. If I had to generalise I'd say they are often more outgoing and friendly, but in a very positive way.

Thinking though, none of them are in any way associated with the Cali rich girl lifestyle so perhaps that's a factor (tries to imagine the Harvard educated doctor who fought in Vietnam with vocal fry. Fails)

MrsEmmelineLucas · 27/05/2025 18:58

I agree with this. I saw an interview with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. They spoke normally and they were sharp and self deprecating. None of this nonsense..

elessar · 27/05/2025 22:37

It’s an odd thing to say about Harry - does she think if she says it then it makes it true?

Harry is not objectively “extremely handsome.” At best he’s average looking. That’s ok, not everyone can be George Clooney. Personally I think he’s quite unattractive, though that is his whiny, spiteful and arrogant personality as much as his physical appearance.

It’s nice if she thinks he’s attractive (though I have my doubts), because attraction is about much more than just looks. But insisting in public that he’s a “total fox” and “very very handsome” is just a bit weird. Maybe she’s trying to convince herself.

MrsEmmelineLucas · 27/05/2025 22:42

She is. Is that what they call "manifesting"?

Bontonbonbon · 28/05/2025 07:42

She has such a credibility problem now that she could say that the sky is blue and we’d all have to go outside to check.

I would 100% agree that she is a narcissist. Everything she ever says, even if it is supposed to be about someone else, is actually about here self. I don’t think anyone who has watched the multiple videos of her pushing Harry aside so she can speak would question that she has a pathological need to be the centre of attention.

Extiainoiapeial · 28/05/2025 08:03

Good for her. I big my DH up too. It's a nice thing to do.

Interested to see there's a lot of psychiatrists on this thread who deem her to be a narcissist. Armchair diagnoses is not on.

AlfredTheButtlerWithTwoTs · 28/05/2025 08:12

I'm a US citizen (although haven't lived there for a long time) and am not enjoying our names being taken in vain here 😂

I don't mind her or him particularly and don't care about the royal family at all really, but this sounds so cringe and agree that she has a credibility problem, whether that's fair or not, among anyone who aren't massive fans of hers. Some people would say she's amazing and gorgeous and wonderful no matter what she said. Equally some people would say she's the worst no matter what she said or did. Honestly think they should pursue a quiet life away from the media, but I'm not in showbiz, so my opinion is probably a bit useless.

I don't find the English gloomy either

Edited

We're not, usually! Also, I've never found Americans to be self obsessed or cringeworthy, usually bright and self deprecating!
Meghan no more represents American sensibilities than Harry represents English ones.
This is about personality. Also about ambition and a need for publicity. I think if that's their choice, fine, but they'll get criticised.

Zuve · 28/05/2025 08:19

I found her very hard to listen to. She says things only to look wonderful, so she could hardly say he was horrid

How about " lived experience"? After all that's why most people post in Relationships eg. To get that benefit. There are many many articles about the type of behaviours MM displays. People don't just talk about it on here so enough of trying to belittle posters here.

bluegreygreen · 28/05/2025 10:08

I think it's very reasonable to point out specific behaviours. I'm much less comfortable with the MN fad for jumping automatically to armchair diagnoses.
