I've embarrassed for Meghan saying that her arranging takeaway food on a plate is the same thing as what Figs Heather Hasson has done 😬

My guess is a lot of them are freebies.

She's rarely seen in big name prestige brands these days. Mostly fairly obscure mid level designers who would welcome the publicity.

The only big names she's worn recently are Ralph Lauren and Carolina Herrara. And both looks (AFAIK) have been from their ready to wear collections. So not bespoke.

$$$ but not $$$$$

MaturingCheeseball · 25/05/2025 10:33

I think their only option is to “lean into” their public image, and become comedy figures. Go on “royal tours” , swan about and turn up at crummy openings - but with self-awareness. Trying to be serious people is clearly hopeless and since they are a laughing stock they may as well capitalise on that.

(We all know they would be-head any new staff member who came up with such a plan…)

Thanks @FenellaFeldman for the link. I can't read it, can only see the picture of the Californian "courtiers". So good to see H&M breaking away from the racist RF and embracing a racially diverse team....oh hang on....No, they've just replaced white men in grey suits with white liberals in business casual.

As a person of colour I'd rather be hired because of my skills and experience and not because I'm going to fulfill some diversity quota. There is enough bs at work sbout diversity and having diverse teams and whilst it's with good intentions when you get a job u do wonder if it's cos I'm ensuring they meet their diversity targets.

Words · 25/05/2025 10:55

Exactly @Spectre8 . It is meant well, but is actually a bit insulting.

Right. So you think that no business or organisation should act to improve diversity? It's ok to continue with all white boards, all white company leaders and, for example, PR and communication teams like H&M?

Baital · 25/05/2025 11:10

But putting together an effective team isn't about getting together the most highly qualified individual for each position. You need a diversity of experience and worldview - otherwise you end up in a bit of an echo chamber.

Plus, of course, when you have a lack of diversity you have to wonder about the way the job has been defined, and the assumptions that have gone into the person spec.

Edited to add, if the 'best person' for all Board level positions is male, what does that say about the way 'best' is being defined by those in power?

FenellaFeldman · 25/05/2025 11:14

Well, @Baital , sadly, not everyone appears to support that.

jeffgoldblum · 25/05/2025 11:24

As a poc , I would not highlight racism in an all white family , complain about lack of diversity and then fail to implement it in my own staff line up .

Harry and Meghan have made this their issue.
Such outrageous hypocrisy.

Yes, racial equality doesn't register for some, the racial imbalance is alive and well in Montecito.

... except when they want to be critical of the RF, as on Oprah and Netflix.
Oh, that was making them money of course.

Yes, quite a come down from the custom Dior and Givenchy she wore as a royal.

She's quite controversial so the prestige names who don't need the publicity will steer clear of her I think.

Thedom · 25/05/2025 11:50

I guess they are embracing the Monetcito lifestyle.

From a Times article a few months ago, a journalist who visited Montecito to see what it was all about .....

" there is glaring economic and racial inequality in Montecito that no one wants to address.

in Montecito I don't see anyone who is not white, except those people waiting tables, working in gardens or running between the stores as Amazon delivery drivers.

Don't the right-on residents find this problematic?

Or does living here take the same cognitive dissonance that allows a self-proclaimed feminist to launch a luxury trad-wife lifestyle brand during a cost of living crisis?

H&M probably have the black gardener, the black housekeeper, all hired for their skills and not their skin colour 🙄🙄

They really are the gift that keeps on giving. I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Given everything that's happened over the last four years, I'm amazed they can get anyone to work for them. They wanted to leave the institution and now they're setting up a team that replicates teams in the institution. Do they have no idea how ridiculous and grandiose they look?

Oh, I completely agree with you @Spectre8 ! I too am a person of colour. And that's why I never assume that people are present or not present at work or within any other institution because of the colour of their skin. I am also sick of DEI and the assumption that those of us who worked hard to be where we are didn't get there on our own merits. And I don't assume that no POC present in a family or an institution is a sign of inherent racism. What a pity Harry and Meghan and their supporters didn't afford the same good sense towards the RF. What a pity they and their supporters called the RF and the institution around it racist. What a pity they hypocritically picked up an award for challenging institutional racism, whilst at the same time doing little to nothing for people of colour within their own institution. I mean, I am sure that there is no shortage of highly qualified POC in the extremely diverse (not to mention huge) population of LA. So Harry and Meghan, as the ultimate promotors of the DEI mentality, are not really putting their money where their large mouths are, are they.

FenellaFeldman · 25/05/2025 12:31

No, it's basically management staff. PR, communications etc. it's like the RF have, only more.

And a Chief of Staff each.

I'd also hope the reverse is true for you. That if you are not doing your job well, failing to adhere to the remit, showing you are not suitable for the task - then you accept that the firm that you work for, in taking action against you, is making a decision based in your performance, not on the colour of your skin.

MaturingCheeseball · 25/05/2025 12:47

I agree @IdaGlossop - why on earth would you take a job with them unless you were really, really desperate or really, really optimistic? Did none of these new staff members do any due diligence?

foreverblowingbubbless · 25/05/2025 12:54

Let's be honest here - what do we know of Oprah's team or GP's team? NOTHING because they operate in the background as they should. They are not out there in the press telling people " oh we need to make Oprah sound better" 🙄 it's embarrassing and smacks of desperation. Can you imagine the behind closed doors ridicule they are getting ? I imagine there are 🙄🙄🙄 and 😂😂😂

But they will get Meghan's bullying and a lovely hand written note with a jar of spread!

Perhaps they relish a challenge. The trouble for PR people in this case is that you need behaviour change and a willingness to take advice in order to tell a positive story. I can't see either of those being forthcoming.
