Polo fundraising

It looks increasingly likely that the charity is at risk of closing.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the Telegraph linked upthread, where they gave full coverage to Ms Chandauka's bombshell claims?

And now this editorial suggests she stands aside for the sake of the cause?

Something isn't adding up here, so I'll continue to stand with Words in assuming nothing until more is known

User450707 · 29/03/2025 21:50

Haven't read the full thread but I remember thinking clearly when the polo incident happened how spectacularly terrible it must be for that lady who got pushed out of the way to face Meghan's wrath. As a textbook narcissist, she was absolutely fuming at Harry being photographed with his arm around another attractive woman of colour. And for that moment to have been spotted and blown up over the press was literally every narc's worst nightmare. So I'm not at all surprised that there were serious consequences behind the scenes which have blown up into all this.

Words · 29/03/2025 21:52

Both sides need to get a grip on this. It's escalating out of control now.
The charity is doomed I would think.

H still has a surprising amount of goodwill as many people are unable to shake the visual of a small boy walking behind his mother's coffin in line with four tall men.

I was rather disappointed in the determination of some in my friendship group to fully blame M as some sort of temptress who led vulnerable victim H astray. As though H had zero agency in the matter! Sadly, some people will blame M and, as ever, H will evade accountability in messy situation.

And if H were ever to turn on M, like he turned on his family, I can see H shamelessly leaning into the "I was seduced and misled by that Jezebel" trope to paint himself as a victim and continue to evade accountability for his actions.

If we are talking about him being complicit in the exact same behaviour he has spent 5 years claiming he himself was the victim of then any goodwill he may have had will be tested to the max.

If Harry turned on Meghan (or vice versa) publicly then it's going to be desperately sad for the children caught in the middle of that hot mess. I would expect Harry, having been the child in the middle of a public parental divorce, and with him wanting to avoid 'generational pain' that he would go out of his way to avoid that playing out.

Polo players of the world, harness your steeds and saddle up – thousands of children with HIV in Africa need your help, even if you are mostly posh, rich and white.

That reads likes satire, yet apparently isn't. It must be the clocks going forward or something, Ted.

Prince Harry has had 5 years of no one standing up to him, and now it's finally happened, imagine going on the PR interviews he's done and not really have to answer any difficult questions because it was all agreed before, now we have an educated black woman, who is not prepared to be used in the PR game they like to use, standing up for herself, it was going to happen at some point. What's Meghan's mantra about women being given a voice? Does it only mean the ones who are sucking up to them?

The irony is that Sophie appears to be the person Meghan has been proclaiming herself to be and clearly isn’t at all. She’s a strong, educated woman who isn’t prepared to be pushed around , minimised and patronised. She’s stands up for truth against injustice. That’s the way it appears at least. Let’s hope that things aren’t murkier than they look with respect to her.

AtIusvue · 29/03/2025 22:17

The times:

Harry’s ‘friend’ is chatting to the times.

https://archive.ph/0Rw7J

On Saturday the friend said Harry was “distraught” and confirmed that each former trustee had been asked to submit a report to the Charity Commission.

“What Harry has made clear is he’s not walking away from Sentebale — he is just not currently able to fulfil his role. If there’s a choice for them to carry on in the way they were, then he’d want that. Harry’s commitment to the people and the issues is ongoing. People will just need to look at the facts, which the Charity Commission will do, and the facts haven’t come out yet.” Another source said: “Harry and Seeiso may return after the chair has departed.”

So…..just let Harry play polo? Right. Ok.

NewAgeNewMe · 29/03/2025 22:19

Interesting times ahead. Will be following this thread closely, as I’m not sure what’s happened exactly so off to read previous thread.

AtIusvue · 29/03/2025 22:19

I’m sure ‘distraught’, is probably how the RF felt when there were racism accusations launched from the Oprah interview.

Shoes on the other foot.

TheAutumnCrow · 29/03/2025 22:21

Harry's just a boy, standing in front of a polo field, wanting to drive his spurs into a pony. When the stakes are this high, let the boy play his sport of millionaires.

StartupRepair · 29/03/2025 22:21

I hope Harry and Meghan love each other and continue to stay together (or what was it all for?)
However, how long will it be before Meghan decides that Harry is tarnishing her brand?

BemusedAmerican · 29/03/2025 22:22

So far the Page 6 comments are pro-Sophie, anti-Harry, and posters are bringing up the Sussex Squad attacks, even mentioning that they have gone on for years.

SoNotaRealHousewife · 29/03/2025 22:22

I wonder if the atmosphere is a touch frosty in the Sussex mansion tonight

Great point.

She’s just starting to get momentum under the new ‘Meghan’ influencer rebrand….and he’s fucking it up for her.

TheNeedyKhakiPanda · 29/03/2025 22:25

The Sussex squad are awful, one was trying to say that Mary Berry was copying Meghan by baking a Victoria Sponge for her 90th birthday, this is the delusion of the squad that neither Harry or Meghan ever call out to stop.

Whereas The Times articles and readership are strongly pro-H and anti Dr C.

BemusedAmerican · 29/03/2025 22:25

Well, if it's true they both read the NY Post and Page Six...

I'm hoping that Kate posts a video of the whole family making breakfast quiche for UK Mother's Day.

They’ll care more about the US tabloids. This is terrible for them.

IdaGlossop · 29/03/2025 22:29

What if there's a rule/policy for funds like Fidelity that a certain percentage of its grants must go to US based entities, not overseas ones? So they give it to a US based entity, like Archewell, which can then skim off its 95% in expenses (thank you Delaware) and give the rest to an overseas entity like Sentebale. (This is supposition only).

For an individual like Harry, rather than donating straight to Sentebale, he donates via Archewell. Gets whatever tax breaks/rebates under Californian law for doing so. Archewell then redistribute the money to Sentebale, possibly paying some of it (up to 95% allowed) back out to Archewell personnel as expenses.

For Archewell: any money that is donated via this vehicle , even if H&M are not the original source of the cash, bigs up H&M as philanthropists.

That makes sense. If I were Dr C, I would want to keep Sentabale funding clean by having donations come direct to Sentebale.

Same paper providing a different viewpoint I guess. According to this article Dr C spent $500,000 on consultancy to create an alternate funding strategy which has not worked, now bringing the charity into difficulties. Whatever Dr C has reported to the Charity Commission they will also likely investigate whether such a large payment was legally allowable under the charity’s constitution. I guess the point of the article was to ask if the charity’s recipients would support the principle of decolonisation even if this means the charity closes and they suffer the consequences. Ultimately Dr C disagreed with the fundraising strategy, the uk base and the projects to be supported. Surely the best course of action would be to have set up her own charity following the principles she believed in rather than completely repurpose on existing one.

TheAutumnCrow · 29/03/2025 22:53

Sophie Chandauka was the one who reported the issues to the Charity Commission. She's also the one who appears to want to keep the donations to Sentebale sustainable, 'clean' and accountable.

Meantime, I've had thoughts about Harry's charitable links and alleged conflicts of interest for a while.

Unfortunately the Charity Commission is not known for its speedy investigations.

There's so much media focus on this case that the Charity Commission will probably get a move on. With Pat McFadden's big scissors doing the rounds looking for things to chop, they need to look efficient.
