Talking earlier about a top from Zara, made me wonder how does Kate, for instance shop for clothes. I don’t mean designer, but high street brands.
i can’t imagine she can just rock up to a shop.

Online?

eta or I’m pretty sure she could phone up a local branch and have them bring round some stuff to try

MrsLeonFarrell · 14/03/2025 17:51

Either online or a stylist will buy them and show them to her. I'm sure if she regularly went clothes shopping there would be photos.

wordler · 16/03/2025 01:24

When she did the Pakistan tour one of the clothes designers said that one of Kate's team found her designs in a London shop bought a selection from the shop (without saying who they were for) and then at a later date they got in touch with the designer and asked to buy some additional bespoke designs.

They weren't told which if any outfits would be worn so had to wait to see if they would be used.

I imagine some stuff like everyday casual stuff she does actually just go to the shops, with her security people in tow.

Remember the security risk is when people know where the Royals will be. It's probably quite low risk to go shopping by just turning up.

Is there not a tale of her taking the kids to Sainsbury's for Halloween outfits?

Yes, in Kings Lynn. Also seen in The Range, there.

I vaguely remember something about her popping to Waterstones near Kensington Palace during Covid to buy history books.

And when they lived in Anglesey reserving something as Mrs Cambridge. I want to say it was a wetsuit but I could be totally wrong.

I'm sure all the RF must go shopping with security in tow. As i said it probably less risky to just turn up and shop than to try and do anything more security wise like asking for the shop to open especially or to sneak in and out back doors. The less people who know where they'll be when the better.

HMQ probaby did it with her headscarf as a bit of a disguise. She also met some American tourists near Balmoral, who asked if she'd ever met The Queen, she replied "No, but this Man has" referring to her Body Guard.

She does go to shops. I live in Bracknell which is near Windsor and has fairly good shops. Every so often it pops up in the town Facebook that someone working in town has seen her shopping, usually with Charlotte too.

that is interesting. I don't know why I forgot about online shopping lol

Because it's nice to actually browse the shops. See and feel fabrics.

Which reminds me, it's been a while since we've seen any of them out working for our money.

As for clothes, online, or private viewings and dressmakers together with stylists who scout for stuff and bring it back to whichever house they happen to be in for a try on.

Just like me 😊

They have all been out and about. Just because it isn't in the print media doesn't mean they aren't doing things.

Look, I was speaking in jest. I don't expect you to defend them but the fact that you have speaks volumes to me, that they need to be defended!

Let's talk about the clothes. I think she browses online and gets a dresser/stylist to pick them up with click and go (saves the delivery people having a gawk on the porch!), and then tries them on. For special occasions a dress may be commissioned. So it is unique. She is a fabulous clothes horse just the same isn't she? Wish I had her height and long legs. But I'm stumpy and old.

I grew up in the area and left nearly 30 years ago. The idea of Catherine shopping in Brackers just makes laugh. Windsor always used to be the posh place to shop. Nice to see that it is much nicer than it used to be.

It's interesting that the FB pictures don't make it into the mainstream press. It's good to see that they can do things like that.

Sometimes we all just have our moments.

I would imagine they get online shopping sent to the post room. I wonder if their postie is as judgemental as ours.

Not defending them, pointing out an inaccuracy. Do it on these threads all the time.

She strikes me as someone who isn’t massively into clothes/fashion/being on trend tbh. Camilla and Anne give the same vibes. They all dress well, and appropriately, I’m not being mean. I just don’t see a love of clothes there.

If I had Kate’s physique (or Anne’s or Cam’s tbh) I’d buy all the clothes from all the shops and change ten times a day!!! 😆 Unfortunately I am on the short side and somewhat broad.

12FreeRangeEggs · 16/03/2025 17:12

I saw her shopping in Peter Jones about 10 years ago. She was in their haberdashery department. This was shortly before she was pregnant with Prince George I think, so maybe it was 12 years ago. She didn’t appear to have any security with her, though no doubt there was someone lurking discreetly. The only reason I noticed her was because an American man said to his partner rather loudly “oh my God it’s Kate Middleton”. Nobody seemed to bother her, other than the aforementioned man. Bizarrely I then walked over to where she had been standing browsing fabrics and started fingering the fabrics for no particular reason other than my brain deciding I should be interested in what she was browsing even though I had only popped in to buy a cushion inner.
