Maybe the (old) Queen should have been elevated to sainthood and she could then continue to reign in perpetuity as an idealised figurehead.

A think tank could be put together to answer the question "What would the Queen do?" in times of national crisis.

The rest of the family could retire to their country mansions, which I think they'd prefer anyway.
