Starting a thread for Tuesday.
This BBC article covers the basics. This is the last line ….
Tuesday really is the beginning of the end. And someone is going to lose - and lose big.

I have a feeling, that Harry won’t win but he just wants to use the public setting to air his grievances. A therapy session would have worked out much cheaper.

Prince Harry leaves the court during his hacking case against the Daily Mirror. He wears a dark coloured suit, white shirt and tie. His barrister David Sherborne, also dressed in a dark suit is on his left. A crowd of photographers are behind a metal...

Prince Harry versus newspapers: This is the one that matters

Prince Harry’s legal battle against British tabloids for allegedly unlawfully intruding into his life reaches its most important moment on Tuesday.

Well done Harry. He stood up for what was right and got the apology he deserved for himself and his mother. I think she would be very proud of him and the life he’s created for himself and family, away from the awful tabloids and unsupportive family.

He didn't 'stand up' for anything. He accepted a financial settlement without admission of liability.

I hope we get to hear what she thinks of it all 🙂

ridiculous comment. No one knows how litigation is going to pan out once on Court

No it's not, that poster was talking about costs. Solicitors are obliged to give regular updates of costs incurred and estimated costs for each stage in litigation before it goes forward. Months ago, he would have been given a fairly accurate estimate of the costs that would be incurred in the run up to trial and for the duration of the trial. His solicitors would also have given him an estimate of potential damages for each head of his claim should they be successful, together with a percentage chance of success.

What you expecting? A statement from Lady Di the ghost?

And I have answered multiple times!!
The first phone hacking case involved the Palace. A settlement was paid and there was a prosecution. But the Met decided it was a one off incident and did not investigate phone hacking further. Case closed.

And then others, especially Sienna Miller began raising the alarm that they believed they were being phone hacked and pushed for investigations. Mollie Dowlers mobile phone voicemail was accessed after she had gone missing, leading to the belief she may still be alive. It was published in newspapers as evidence she may still be alive. When she was found dead and it was realised by the police investigating her murder that her phone was hacked, the story exploded all over the media. And public outrage was sky high. The public demanded the government do something. The government announced a public enquiry.

You are so determined to not get the point, aren't you. Nobody would have known what phone hacking was, nobody would have investigated anything if it had not been for William reporting it to the police. It doesn't matter if the police initially thought it was a one off. That case established that phone hacking was a phenomenon, something nobody but the hackers were aware of, not even the phone companies. If the police hadn't discovered its existence off the back of William's complaint, there would be no Sienna Miller raising the alarm, there would have been no outcry over Milly Dowler's phone. Because nobody would have known about any of it to raise the alarm.

You simply have no answer for who would have discovered the existence of phone hacking if it wasn't or William's complaint. And the fact is it was discovered because of William.

Bontonbonbon · 22/01/2025 21:36

What lovely news for Harry. Will he be donating his settlement money, like his brother did?

Yours is the ridiculous comment - don't make me laugh!!😂
Don't you think there will be some form of ballpark estimation of costs? Or do they just go in there with carte blanche?

Ludicrous!!

JoyousGreyOrca · 22/01/2025 21:39

@Partybagprick If the royal family had not been phone hacked, phone hacking would have been discovered with others in the same way.
Millie Dowlers phone hacking was an open and shut case. Who did it had to be investigated, but the detectives detected that it had happened.

I do not understand why you are bothering going down this dead end.

I think she would be mortified by the way he's treated his brother in particular, but also his SIL, his father, his grandmother and his grandfather.

I think she expected her boys to support each other throughout their lives.

Yeah, but William’s was the first case. Had it been Hugh Grant or Sienna Miller, we wouldn’t be making the argument.

William started it all when he went to the police.

Are we talking about the same Diana? The one who pushed her stepmother down the stairs? It’s all the drama, Mick, she just loves it.

Whatever else she did, she was very aware of the significance of William's future, and supportive of the monarchy...

Edited

NO ONE is denying the royal families phone hacking was the first case to go to the police. I know that.
What is clearly wrong is that this led to further investigations of phone hacking. It did not. It was treated by the Met as a one off case.

Sienna Miller was shouting about press intrusion and suspected phone hacking. But it was the Millie Dowler case that was clearly phone hacking that led directly to the public enquiry. The Millie Dowler phone hacking was not suspected, it was clearly proven and was an absolutely shocking case.

boredashellbythiscrap · 22/01/2025 21:58

The outcome is not a competition between Harry and William. Some posters can't get over their hate for Harry and are willing to back anyone against him even if it is the gutter press.

Right, so now we have it. SOMEONE would have discovered it. This mysterious SOMEONE would have put 2 and 2 together with their clever journalist friend that their (really quite inconsequential) private conversation appeared in the press, and SOMEONE (unlike most others) was in the unique position to think that this was very weird and not merely the result of a bit of loose talk from family/friends. SOMEONE would have had the clout to persuade the police to investigate, and the police would have, because SOMEONE was important enough to have their complaint investigated as a security concern. And despite the actual phone companies having no idea that phone hacking existed/was possible, SOMEONE's status and involvement was important enough for this to have been looked into. SOMEONE had staff dealing in confidential matters, and those staff had their phones checked by the phone companies and calls to their voicemails tracked back to Clive Goodman.

Poor old SOMEONE. They sound very special, and they would have gone down in history for being the catalyst for a great injustice being uncovered. Such a shame William got in there first.

You're the one who keeps denying Leveson had anything to do with William, despite the evidence and the words of Leveson himself. It's not a dead end to correct misinformation.

I can't decide if you are taking the stance you are as part of your obvious ongoing hatred of Harry, or if you work for NGN and are posting in defence of them to muddy the waters

Totally your choice, @JoyousGreyOrca, though you'd be mistaken on both counts; though media trained I don't work for any of them, and while I certainly hate some of Harry's behaviour I can't actually do the same about someone I don't know

It's a rather lazy and tired trope used when someone points out inconvenient facts though, so probably best disregarded

Media trained? You? 🤣

Who other than you said it was?

William and Harry originally made a complaint jointly, and Harry withdrew.

I think most of us who think Harry has behaved disgracefully would have liked him to bring down Murdoch et al. It was a task he either felt unable to execute or he couldn't afford to. He shouldn't have shot his mouth off about slaying dragons because he has made himself look silly.

Most of us are capable of separating things out!
