Selfies with Charlotte

TheRealGossipGirl · 27/12/2024 07:52

This morning, I came across a video on TikTok from Sandringham this weekend where Princess Charlotte was asked for a selfie by a woman in the crowd, and she agreed. Then, another woman asked for one, and Charlotte did the same.

I find it so strange that a 9-year-old girl is being asked for selfies by fully grown adults. I get that she’s royal, and for some people, this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see her in person, but still, it feels a bit odd, right? What do you think?

I agree. That’s definitely crossing a boundary- that needs to be stopped.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 27/12/2024 08:10

Only pathetic losers would ask for this. Some people really aren’t healthy.

Thedom · 27/12/2024 08:29

Absolutely !

Saw that video too and Charlotte handled it with aplomb, but it was really inappropriate of the adults to ask.

Cupcakegirl13 · 27/12/2024 08:38

I’ve seen some Sandringham footage and I was surprised William & Kate allowed the children to pootle off to the crowd without them , meaning they had to navigate things like this without an adult next to them .

MaggieBsBoat · 27/12/2024 08:40

Urgh people are so dumb and weird. Leave the child alone. What is wrong with you???

bohnerific69 · 27/12/2024 08:43

Very strange of adults to ask this of a 9 year old. She would've been briefed by her parents/security though so they've obviously allowed it!

ThePoshUns · 27/12/2024 08:45

That's so creepy. What is wrong with people? Poor Charlotte.

Beechashwillowmaple · 27/12/2024 08:46

I think the whole thing has become really inappropriate. What used to have been a simple stroll to church has turned in to a zoo with the children as the exhibits. I saw them on the news; people were shouting the children's names and screaming like deranged fans. Get a grip fhs. And don't subject children to this nonsense in the first place.

Rocknrollstar · 27/12/2024 08:46

They aren’t ordinary children. Charlotte has been coached by Sophie. They know what they have to do in public.

Newuser75 · 27/12/2024 08:47

I think the whole thing is strange to be honest.
I know there will be security there but surely there is a risk with letting young kids wander around all those people taking presents off them.
In the photos I've seen George and Louis look a little uncomfortable.
Charlotte seems amazing and looks like a real pro already but it's a strange position to put a 9 year old in for sure.

boredashellbythiscrap · 27/12/2024 08:47

Don't let the kids go on the walk abouts if you don't want this to happen. I can't see them stopping this it generates publicity for them and keeps them relevant which is what this is all about.

TheaBrandt · 27/12/2024 08:50

Encapsulates for me why the whole concept of having a royal family is wrong, Being born into a role is at odds with our whole society now. That child could not consent to her position. The whole thing is just weird.

kindlyensure · 27/12/2024 08:50

Yes, I totally agree. Especially as don't they have a 'no tech' rule for their kids?

The whole Sandringham thing is weird though tbf. It makes me think that H&M must be pretty relieved their kids aren't part of this circus*.

George looks utterly miserable. He carries himself in an uncomfortable way.

(*waits for the inevitable, 'whaddya mean? M is probs gagging for her kids to be included').

MaxMaxy · 27/12/2024 08:51

The people doing thus would claim to be big royalist but they being very weird towards the children. But pp are right I'm sure K an W aren't keen on doing this but cute kids are good fir their popularity so they carry on doing it.

I agree with the coaching. They appear very calm and measured. In comparison Zara’s little girl shows excitement in her actions and expressions

LizzieSiddal · 27/12/2024 08:54

I’ll never forget when the kids walked into the church for the Queen’s funeral. All walked down the very long aisle infront of thousands of people, without holding anyone’s hand. You’d think their parents would have wanted to reassure them as they walked, but no, they just let them get on with it. Heartless people!!

Spectre8 · 27/12/2024 08:56

Well as royals they are famous so take that age away it's people wanting a picture with a royal/famous person.

If their parents were concerned then they should of ensured they don't wander off but no doubt the children have been prepped.

If they want their kids to have more privacy they shouldn't bring them.

They do have a choice after all. Traditions can change and evolve.

People can be such thick twats.

What a spectacle they make of themselves.

I thought this too. It's such a weird thing to do as a member of the public. Some people travel for hours and then sit disabled granny in a wheelchair outside the church in the cold. Utterly bizarre ( and yes I know it's presumably something granny wants to do but still). Also the children getting gifts from people. These are the most privileged children in the country. They want for nothing. Presumably people wave Disney toys at them because they know the children will approach them . Weird.

smilesy · 27/12/2024 09:17

I agree it’s not something I would do, but people are invested in different things. It’s not really any different to waiting for hours to catch a glimpse of any other famous person you happen to be a fan of. I’m not sure why you bring “disabled granny” in to it? Presumably everyone who is there is there of their own free will

eta meant to quote post above

BeardofHagrid · 27/12/2024 09:19

Yes, I don’t like this, also handing them any kind of food which apparently has to go straight in the bin for obvious safety reasons! It’s a lot for these kids to have to deal with.

I agree. I don't think the kids are bothered as they're used to this sort of thing and of course there will be surrounded by security so there's no risk. But it's still a bit weird and inappropriate.

As you say, it used to be a simple walk to church with some spectators looking on, which is fine. But for the kids to be mingling with the crowds, taking selfies, getting gifts they don't want or need is crossing a line I think.

I couldn't have put it better. The children are being used for photo ops and positive PR for the Royal Family.

Awful to have selfies demanded by the lunatic royalists.

I honestly think in decades to come, we'll look back and say 'what on earth were we thinking'.

Or they could take them, properly supervise them and tell security to tell these people a firm no. They are allowing this, and no doubt got loads of publicity about ' Charlotte's selfies' so they clearly don't mind about privacy when it comes to the Royals PR. As usual.

There’s precedent for that. I’m not someone who follows the Royal family activities avidly but even I remember Diana’s funeral and I was practically shouting at the television ‘will someone please hold that child’s hand’. Charles, William, Harry and their uncle all walked behind the coffin. The boys were only about 12 and 14. Royal or not, I felt that was too much to ask of anyone - walking down the aisle at great grandmother’s funeral doesn’t compare.
