‘I'm always amazed at how much detail d knowledge people have about the inner workings of the royal family-down to who said what to who when! There must be so many courtiers mumsnetting in their spare time!’

but there are not many degrees of seperation between quite ordinary people and the Royal Family. For example, I was friendly with someone who made accessories for both Diana and Fergie, DH’s assistant was best friends with another royal spouse ( their child was a wedding attendant), the warden of DM‘s assisted living used to work for Prince Phillip at Windsor, another friend was closely involved with Windsor Chapel, and someone in my close social circle regularly has 1/2/1 lunch with the Princess Royal. Even though most of these people are discreet , you get an idea of what is going on.

BemusedAmerican · 12/12/2024 14:29

Well, Meghan did make a commercial where she grilled a burger. 😁

She could do a tailgating episode in the cooking show and produce an accessory line. Paper plates, table cloths, napkins, aprons, etc.

I've mentioned this before, but my friend actually reports to RAVEC! He's a mental health nurse who assesses the credibility of threats to royals and VIPs, and acts as a triage/first responder for dealing with them if arrested.

He's discreet, but he is able to talk about types of threats etc.

And since Harry is gunning for him, I do take sides on the matter. Unlike Harry, my friend has a job he's competent at.

Plus a lot of people have tangential links which, depending on how close lipped people are, can result in little hints. I can think of three I had off the top of my head which could have produced information

I knew the wife of a close protection officer, can't engender if that's the correct title for the police who do that, at Anmer Hall.

A relative was church warden at a church the Queen used to visit often and knew the people she visited.

I was friends with someone whose parents worked for the Royal family.

I don't have any inside knowledge at all but if those people had been less discreet I'd have gossip to spread. I'm really no one at all so if I have 3 contacts I can see how people better placed would know loads. It's six degrees of separation come to life.

So true.

I have links within three degrees of separation to:

  • Gwyneth Paltrow
  • Joe Biden
  • (ex) President Assad
  • Martine McCutcheon

If you think about it, those four people alone mean I have just four degrees of separation to most major film stars, British TV actors, and most world leaders.

So why it's odd that people know stuff about the Royal Family is just bizarre.

But didn’t someone involved with the series say that H and M were very involved and M in particular was a driving force ?

Yes, as I posted above, the show runner gave an interview to People saying it was her idea and they were both hands on. That's what I mean by everyone throwing each other under the bus.

Noseyoldcow · 12/12/2024 17:44

Just watched the Polo series. Well flicked through a lot of it. What a load of horseshit. Wanted to watch because as a kid I would have liked to have done pony club polo, but living in suburban South London and not having much money saw that ambition off, though I daresay my wonderful (won everything for me at gymkhanas) pony would have been good at it, but I'd never have risked him by riding like a lunatic so we probably wouldn't have got anywhere anyway. Both of us might have enjoyed trying though. Wanted to see what I missed. Nothing at all if this is to go by. The series was all about a bunch of arrogant stinking rich poseurs posing. If this is Meghan and Harry's world they are welcome to it.

MrsLeonFarrell · 12/12/2024 18:06

When Harry and Meghan came out it was top of my screen everytime I logged into Netflix. It was suggested in practically every category where they squeeze even a tiny bit of relevance.

Today Polo came up low down one a secondary list and the snippet they show you when you hover over it is so boring, not even dirty, sweaty boys.

It's hard to avoid the impression Netflix aren't that enthusiastic about it.

Baital · 12/12/2024 18:36

AzurePanda · 12/12/2024 08:31

@Baital, polo ponies are rarely stabled (unless in a very fancy polo yard) and happily live out all year round. We make our own hay so no extra cost there and a handful of nuts every day each is really not expensive.

People make different choices, we’ve never bought a new car and have a caravan for holidays.

It’s been so lovely to give so many polo ponies happy homes over the years - still have 3 left and one is 31!

Well, yes, if you have enough land to provide grazing and hay for 10.ponies then I expect it does look.like a 'shoestring'.

If you have a 10 bed roomed house and can afford a stay at home parent then you can have 8 children on a 'shoestring'. But that is a fairly unusual situation. It doesn't apply to the majority of the population 😂 even without new cars and a caravan for holidays

queenofarles · 12/12/2024 19:07

So many new releases on Netflix , maybe not the right time for polo , I’m not in the UK at the moment but where I’m at , the popular shows are 100 days of solitude , Senna , The empress , Dark dove, Who killed jonbenet. A January or Feb date would have been a better choice.

Wildbird12 · 12/12/2024 19:09

I've only watched the first episode so far but I am so surprised that the welfare of the ponies hasn't been mentioned yet. This shows that the makers of this are tone deaf in 2024.

And I cringed when the credits gave them their full titles - Duchess of Sussex, etc. She has very little respect for the Royal Family and yet she uses the title. I'd respect them more if they just used their own names - they're no better than any of us. A title implies that they are.. (I'm Irish and think it's crazy having titles and a royal family in this day and age).

Tone. Deaf.

And I agree that this could have been very interesting but its quite boring so far.

IcedPurple · 12/12/2024 19:28

Where's the poster who kept posting giddy 'Save the date! 10th December! Polo'?

I'm surprised they're not back with excited reviews about the wonderfulness of it all.

On the red carpet at the Variety event in 2023 (before she was shoved off it), Meghan said she wanted to do content that made people "feel". She succeeded. We all feel utter disgust.

elessar · 12/12/2024 19:41

I've not watched it but I think it's pretty grim that they included a comment from one of the players saying they don't even know the names of the the ponies they ride.

It's not surprising as many players do treat the horses like machines but I'm surprised they would choose to showcase such a callous attitude in this programme.

It does make me wonder what Harry was trying to achieve with this programme, as it doesn't sound like it does anything positive for either the sport or the people who play.

“Pearl”, for instance sounded about as much fun as watching paint dry. I’m not surprised it bit the dust.*

I said this at the time but seem to remember being a bit of a minority rather than the choir.

Likewise the already failed and rejected 'Live To Lead' thing filched off someone else's dusty shelf.

Who'd have thought?

They are probably discombobulated with excitement with the prospect of the 'dupes' of MM's earings that they put on their Christmas list last Feb turning up under their tree in under two weeks.

Or MM has cut their fee and they are focused on another client.

I have to agree. I would not know that Polo had been released if not for this thread. My NF recommended list is full of cheesy Hallmark style Christmas films and true crime. I couldn't get away from Harry & Meghan when it came out. Polo is no where to be seen.

Interesting that Meghan is desperately trying to distance herself again despite what others are saying. So much leaking and planting, as always.

Do we think PH is aware that MM is leaking and planting against him?
