Did you watch the news? Sure its right. Lets face it we often have to put on a public face while quietly irritated. Also, William is looking too skinny. What going on? Eat your food sir. :).

It’s a really gorgeous colour on her - love it. Love the bag too - may need to hunt down a copy 😉 Not feeling the hat though but think it might be a style thing for me because I think a bigger brimmed hat would have been too much.

MrsLeonFarrell · 04/12/2024 17:39

I like the colour but I didn't like the coat. I thought it looked like she had two coats on at once.

I do like her pearls and earrings though and those boots were fabulous.

pilates · 05/12/2024 13:05

She looked gorgeous as always. The boots looked more comfy than the high stilettos she normally wears. Nice to see her out and about.

stripeyshutters · 05/12/2024 13:28

There's thought goes into what is worn at these state events from colours to styles to jewellery. The Queen was a big fan of pearls as she thought they were discreet. The point of much of it is to honour the guest and not be the centre of attention.

CurlewKate · 05/12/2024 13:45

"The Queen was a big fan of pearls as she thought they were discreet."

Indeed. Not with a massive great jewel on them, though.

The necklace belonged to the late Queen so she obviously thought it fitted the bill 🤷‍♀️

Apparently she was wearing a coat over a coat- dress. She took the coat off and changed in to shoes when she went in for lunch

Nothing wrong with the necklace. Just not in that context.

stripeyshutters · 05/12/2024 13:50

Catherine wore it at both Philip's and the Queen's funerals.

That's a lot of coat!

stripeyshutters · 05/12/2024 13:55

It must be a fine line to walk - to show respect to their guests and that will vary from country to country and culture to culture. The Omanis are proud of their UK link and have certain social traditions that must be observed which involve both their heritage and religion. You can't just turn up like you're going to the supermarket as that would be seen as immensely disrespectful.

WinterCrow · 05/12/2024 14:33

It must be a minefield - don't under-dress or it's disrespectful, but don't overdress and outshine the guests because that's also disrespectful.

CurlewKate · 05/12/2024 14:40

@stripeyshutters "Catherine wore it at both Philip's and the Queen's funerals."

Presumably she was not also wearing brown leather boots?

WinterCrow · 05/12/2024 14:48

Maybe she was feeling a bit parky. She had gloves on, too.

I was referring to the topic of conversation which were the pearls.

So was I. There are conventions that go with the wearing of pearls. Pearls like that, with a jewel, are more suitable with evening/very formal wear. Plain pearls would have gone better with the burgundy dress, knee boots and leather gloves outfit.

casapenguin · 05/12/2024 16:50

Come on now… she looks like an air hostess.

I've just googled for pix of ER II in that necklace, and the only ones I found were
of her in evening dress.

PoWess has worn it a few times at daytime very formal state/ceremonial events.

The pearls I associate most strongly with ER II is the 3 strand necklace she wore extremely frequently. When your pearls are real, wild ones and the size of marbles, who needs more?

Only because both she and the Flight Attendant are wearing the main colour of the flag of Qatar though. Otherwise I can’t imagine anyone would mistake one for the other.

The content does matter, you are right. Sheikha Jawaher was not going to turn up in a high street dress and barely visible jewels was she?

Here they both are on the dais. That’s a full-length Valentino couture coat and some serious diamond earring there. She had on a couple of big diamond rings too. Kate’s diamond necklace clasp and earrings look quite suited to her counterpart.

Conventions can be broken I like a bit of bling during the day. It adds a bit of an unexpected twist and some personality

Oh are there? Conventions with wearing pearls? 😂 I prefer diamonds myself and wear them everyday although I have my everyday ones and my dress up ones.

WalterdelaMare · 06/12/2024 08:17

I loved the burgundy on Kate. Agree with others that the hat was not good but she pulled it off and her up-do was lovely. She looks so well.

ps the curtseying was embarrassing. I wish they’d stop this nonsense.
