Charles finally looking to solve the Andrew problem?

Better late than never, Charles is stopping Andrew's £1m p.an allowance.
I think he will still refuse to leave the Royal Lodge. I bet he'd rather see it rot around him than give it up. Pig of a man that he is.
At least Charles is trying to do the right thing.

King Charles cuts off Prince Andrew’s allowance

Long overdue.

Theunamedcat · 02/11/2024 06:58

Sounds like he tried to solve it amicably and andrew dug his heels in

MrsLeonFarrell · 02/11/2024 09:12

"When will he realise he has become a victim of his own pride"

"Andrew’s “obstinacy” had “soured” family relationships"

Andrew really is an object lesson for all royal spares (not just thinking about Harry here).

Brilliant

Thank you for the share token.

Rumours of this sort have been circulating for a while.

I don't know if The Times is being legally cautious when it says this "is believed" to have happened, and much is based on the Mail's serialisation of the Hardman biog, with this bit attributed to "a source". With another bit to "a friend of Charles"

Are the accounts of the Privy Purse published? Because I'm not sure whether his allowance is personal from Charles (and therefore might not be published) or if it's on some other footing.

It says none of the parties involved have commented on the record (BP and Crown Estates did not comment, the Duke could not be reached)

1000 years too late for the lot of them

Zippedydodah · 02/11/2024 11:30

I just wonder what other sleazy business contacts Andrew has lined up to fund his lifestyle?
He makes me shudder every time I see his photo 😵‍💫

KnickerlessParsons · 02/11/2024 11:33

How will Andrew live now then? He's going to need to buy food and pay for his Netflix subscription etc.
He can't exactly get a job - who would hire him?

He’s inherited a lot of money from his mother and probably the queen mother. He’s lived beyond his means all his life.

ThePoshUns · 02/11/2024 11:36

Maybe Fergie can support him?!

ETA. Just seen the post about his inheritance etc. Forgot about that!

Are the accounts of the Privy Purse published?

This is referenced in the link below, @EdithWeston I believe (but could be wrong) that a "report" on the accounts is published rather than the accounts themselves

And yes, doubtless the comment that it's "believed to have happened" means they don't actually know ... just like practically everything else with RF financial arrangements which they prefer to keep to themselves

Interesting the timing of this announcement given the Channel 4 dispatches programme tonight!

Part of the agreement is that Andrew has to maintain the place including redecorating every X number of years . If he doesn’t, he breaks the agreement.

NigellaAwesome · 02/11/2024 17:40

I reckon he will be in hock to some undesirable regime in order to continue financing himself. He is a national security nightmare.

Agreed. God knows who these sources of funding will be.

CathyorClaire · 02/11/2024 19:33

Charmless has been cited as the third richest royal in the past and I've never believed he hasn't got the dosh to carry out the repairs.

The recent reports that BP are sensitive to the origins of at least some of said dosh make absolute sense of the growing dilapidation of the place.

We already know enough of the venal duke's dealings to know there's likely to be a sensational story in the background. The fact the trade envoy records have been sealed until they're only of academic interest to future historians bears this out.

MissTrip82 · 02/11/2024 19:47

Good. Revolting man.

I feel a bit sorry for Charles, he needs to both distance himself from his brother but also keep him close enough to make sure he doesn’t run off and write a book. Difficult.

DreamTheMoors · 02/11/2024 19:52

The news even made it to the US.
In an article I read, it said that Andrew wasn’t bothered at all because he’d found other sources of funding.
It used the term “funding,” but did not name the sources.

So agree. Records have been sealed until 2065, until we're all dead.

Convenient.

So predictable

I’m watching Dispatches at the moment and finding it really shocking.

Fifty years too late.

So you would have evicted him when he was 14?!
