Will they let the King stop if he is not well enough?

Hi,

I just wondered - will they let the King stop doing all these engagements if he is not well enough to do it? I worry a bit because he doesn't look the right colour and his hands are kind of swelled up looking. I keep worry that it might be inhumane that people keep pusing him to do all these public engagements. Plenty of other people would be happy to be quietly retired by that age.

I've always liked King/Prince Charles and he seems like such a kind person. I worry a bit about him having to do a ton of stuff out of duty, when maybe it is too much to ask.

I just wondered if anybody knows.

He had two doctors travelling with him. I think it’s ridiculous this tour took place at all. The other side of the world for a short trip .
Charles looks at least ten years older than he is. His colour has been awful for some time and he’s had sausage fingers for years. He doesn’t look a well man, and my guess is he won’t live more than a few years. We will see. Why Wiliiam couldn’t have done the tour alone I don’t know. He really needs to be doing a lot more to support his father .

It is much better for Charles to be out doing things he enjoys rather than sitting at home obsessing about his aches and pains. He's waited a long time to be king. Let him enjoy it.

I saw a cluck with an Australian announcer calling Charles "a dude" with admiration for his behavior.

BemusedAmerican · 26/10/2024 22:33

If William went to Australia, he would be criticized for trying to take his father's place.

According to an article on the BBC website this morning, the King has been invigorated by the tour and will have a full touring schedule next year.

Charles does strike me as the sort of person who finds energy and inspiration in meeting people and who hates to be at a loose end.

Williams wife is recovering from cancer treatment. I doubt he wants to travel too far unless it's essential for a while yet.

daisychain01 · 27/10/2024 07:38

The King has Dactylitis or sausage fingers which is an ongoing condition he's had for decades.

he is probably keeping going and in better form because of his royal duties rather than in spite of them. They will undoubtedly be giving him a sense of normality. His sense of duty comes from his dear Mama.

I think he must be delighted with how successful the tour was, the Aussies put on a great event for him, the Sydney Opera House being lit up with their image is going to go down as a very iconic moment. The public support was incredible, I think he must be returning home pretty pleased with how it went and very happy he did it.

William and Catherine's instagram has been quiet during the tour, so as not to detract from his father, I think him stepping into the Kings shoes for overseas tours now, is very premature, William knows his place and won't be trying to overshadow the King and Queen.

In a way the trip was something of an experiment to see how well it went. Sensibly they didn't 'do' evenings and they had day one off, which most of us could do with when we take our bodies miles around the world's timelines. He did also go to Samoa, partly for the conference. I presume that date was known months ahead of time.

Edingril · 27/10/2024 08:09

They? I presume he is at the top of his job so who is they?

upinaballoon · 27/10/2024 08:09

I'm not good at re-telling jokes but there was one on the News Quiz yesterday.

Australian woman shouts, "You're not my king."
Camilla replies, "Well, he's mine. D'ya want to take this outside?"

<cough> Edward VIII

Basically Parliament can change the rules of the monarchy however they like if following the existing precedent would be inconvenient, as long as there's a solid majority and fundamental public consensus.

Exactly.

You can add <cough> George I to that list too. Nowhere near the next in line after Queen Anne, but the one that was acceptable to Parliament.

BasiliskStare · 27/10/2024 11:54

Ah - @upinaballoon I had not heard that joke but it made me giggle. I like Camilla and I would not want to mess with her but I think she is doing her best in a job she never wanted. Leo Violent Charles has many years life left so that his son and indeed George have a few more years left before they have to step forward.

I suspect that his recent illness has made Charles more determined than ever to tour the realms as King while he still can.

William has started taking on most of the investitures (with Anne) and I imagine that Charles will start to shuffle various parts of the workload his way but as King presume he gets to pick to keep the bits he likes the most.

... and while he has any realms left to tour!

Seriously? Kind? Deary me. There are thousands of homeless right outside his front door. Kind isn't a word that would strike me and to be honest, I hope 'they', whoever 'they' are do let him stop sooner rather than later. You sound very kind but I think you need to examine who and what this man really is. If he was that kind, no one in London would be dying on the streets. He has untold wealth. It's hypocrisy at it's finest.

WellsAndThistles · 18/01/2025 15:19

He's had bratwurst fingers for years. I think he looks great considering his age and current health issues.

BasiliskStare · 18/01/2025 18:54

Just to say in my post above when I said Leo Violent Charles - that was auto corrected from Deo Volente - or I just didn't tick the don't replace box. Just to explain my post which may have been otherwise the ramblings of a mad woman ( still might be 😂)
