Netflix deal, looking like it may be over for H&M

The rumours have been doing the rounds for a while, but Puck News now reporting it, which means it is very likely that their contract with Netflix will not be renewed.

"The streamer is not expected to renew its five-year, $100 million deal signed in 2020 with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Meghan’s passion project, the animated kids show Pearl, has already been canceled, and the unscripted cooking and polo offerings didn’t connect the way the royal couple’s Harry & Meghan did. "

This poster has started two royal threads and is active on others so possibly their need to talk about the Mountbatten-Windsors of Montecito is greater than most,

There is a piece of news where Meghan moved a fan during a panel and how empowered / kind she was
when I saw that it reminded me of how I always reposition the fan away from my husband on to me so I get the full benefit 😀
I think she was very hot and this is what she was doing - nothing about being kind in it 👍so who knows why it was interpreted that way
She gets very positive press in the main

Gorgonemilezola · 24/08/2024 08:36

It was possibly because it was her turn to speak and she was expected to speak in her 'fluent' Spanish, bottled it and used the fan repositioning as a ruse to get out of it 😁

Really? You think that?

I don’t think she cared for how she was being treated fullstop.

You’re right. She wanted to be treated as Numero Uno. as the Belle of the Ball, as the Queen of Sheba, and she didn’t like it one bit that she wasn’t.

Surely you can see how she sidelines Harry at these events they go to now. Even you can see his little head poking through a gap at the back while wifey takes centre stage.

This is what I heard. That the moving of the fan was distraction tactics. When she got back someone else had taken over speaking. 😁

CarmelaBrunella · 24/08/2024 09:45

She said herself that she didn't like the hierarchy. Why marry into a monarchy then ?

Yet another super fan detailing another Royal thread. Why can’t they stay on topic or better yet; create your own ‘ I ❤️ the Sussexes’ thread.

It the same stuff over and over. Never reacting to current news or the title of the thread.

They always stick out like a sore thumb.

Was the person about to hand the mic to her the VP, do we know? The woman who had, a little while earlier, displayed some bizarre body language relation to M and the VP's husband.

I'm coming to believe that she is deliberately humiliating him - that pic of him at the children's table, while she is next to the VP and her husband! - so that he declines to go on the next one and she can start her solo career as Duchess of Hearts.

You could be right. In fact I think you are. That makes a lot of sense.

Maybe she hopes she can shine brightly enough without him on a trip that she’ll get more solo invites. She’ll probably have to tag him along sometimes just to keep it fresh that’s she’s ‘somebody’ but she definitely doesn’t need him for moral support on these trips.

She needs to set herself up as the important one so she can do solo royal tours. Duchess Meghan Queen of Hearts. That's why she couldn't stand William and Catherine being ahead of her in the pecking order.

CarmelaBrunella · 24/08/2024 10:11

He must be a liability, though. Can you imagine dragging him around? His title is very useful, though.

KnickerlessParsons · 24/08/2024 11:12

So how come Sophie Winkleman is still working?

Because she's British and knew where place in the hierarchy would be before she signed up for the game. She also knew the national anthem, so that must have helped too 😁

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 24/08/2024 11:32

I still can’t believe Lady Frederick Windsor is Big Suze 🤣

CarmelaBrunella · 24/08/2024 11:34

Sophie Winkleman is also intelligent and self aware.

Really? You don’t think it’s her manner and what comes out of her mouth that people are judging, just the fact she was an actress (albeit little known)?

It is strange that her being American is rarely cited as a potential problem when anyone who has been in a cross cultural relationship will know that things can be perceived very differently in different cultures. That’s even before considering the differences between Uk culture and royal culture.
Harry is very lucky that his life in the US is not as public as his UK life so his gaffes aren’t as well known to Americans. (I know that he has made gaffes like the First Amendment comment )

I’ve always thought this. We may speak the same language but our cultures are different.

Even our language has different meanings.

Remember when there was the spat when H&M first left the RF and put out a public announcement that stated they wanted half in half out.

The queen then put something out about public service not working with a half in/out model.

They then shot back saying service is universal.

Well the only reason why this jumped out at me, is that I had a lots of books on projects for children and volunteering. Except, most of these books were American and they don’t use the words ‘volunteering’ they use the word ‘service’

The words ‘community service’ in the UK has a very very different meaning to community service in the US.

Here, the word service has a formal meaning of responsibility and expectations. We use the world for armed services or those providing professional services. We don’t use the word for the volunteer sector.

But this is how Americans use the word. So when Meghan (the American) shot back saying service is universal, she meant volunteering. Which is true. But the capacity of which the queen was taking about, being a public servant, that isn’t universal.

So completely lost in translation was the English word of Service and what it means.

That’s just one tiny word and look at the fallout. There must be so many examples of her time in the UK. And you’re right, Harry’s gaffes are hidden from sight.

I don’t think it was lost in translation. It was just snippy. As for cultural differences well yes, but I think it’s pretty obvious that the UK royal family is not just culturally different for an American, but unique in it’s outlook for anyone, even a UK National to begin to comprehend. The problems with inter cultural relationships arise if neither party addresses them or just carries on as if they don’t exist. This is what happened with Harry and Meghan. Meghan appears to have made no attempt to assimilate with or even recognise that US and British culture are different , and the RF is different again

QueenOfHertz · 24/08/2024 13:13

The best way to test the cultural differences is to ask an American to eat a scone.

That'll show up more than transatlantic differences though Grin

It could mean war between Cornwall and Devon, plus there's the nationwide linguistic rifts! Or is that all part of the test? Along with how tea is made and whether the milk goes in first?

The volunteer sector isn’t “public service” in the UK context either, though. It means working as a civil servant in or in a public sector role, which comes with stringent requirements of impartiality and no profiting from your role in any way.

Michele Obama completely understood what the Queen was saying. When asked her thoughts on the Oprah interview, she famously said

Public service is a bright, sharp, hot spotlight. And most people don't understand it, and nor should they. The thing that I always keep in mind is that none of this is about us in public service, it's about the people we serve."

Why don’t they just admit it? At least we know to avoid certain threads then but they try and pass it off as a discussion when in reality it’s just used for archewell PR. It’s weird.

Yes, the only public servants are those in formal roles. Government, civil service and the royal family. Who have strict rules about their jobs and any outside work.
