But I don’t think they do try and pretend they’re just like us? I think that’s something certain people have projected and it’s stuck
Why do they constantly release press releases about the school run? Why do publicity shots of them on Easyjet when we know they helicopter between their houses regularly? Why make a big deal about moving to a 4 bedroom house with no staff when we know they have staff? They absolutely do pretend to be 'just like you'. The press Royal correspondents lap it up. They are Royal. Everyone knows they have multiple houses, staff etc. Just own it.

I actually really liked Diana, I had no reason not to, purely in a celebrity way. One thing that turned me right off was how she had a couple of affairs with married men. They were never going to say no to her (like the song Jolene). It turns me off in all women actually.

Coincidentally I was looking at photos of Fergie in her youth the other day and she was really pretty. Her hair was beautiful and she had (still has) a very open and warm face. I was in my 20's in the 1980's and was appalled at all the unkind press about her weight and freckles. I still think Diana was beautiful but so was Fergie and, as you say, more natural.

I hated how the press talked about Sarah Ferguson's looks and weight in the eighties. But the fucked up part is that she was considered fat back then. Most women would have considered anyone over about 8.5 or 9 stone as fat.

Probably because they are a lot of “post and dash” posters who are negative to Catherine because they are fans of Meghan. It’s happening a lot recently on this board

Seriously, away from the royal forum echo chamber, most adults don't think like this.

It's more likely that several non-royal-forums posters (me included) noticed this thread and posted on it as it briefly trended.

They just have normal opinions about Kate and Meghan, posted it, then went to another thread and forgot about it. Normal. Most people are truly not interested in the weird conspiracy Meghan stuff 🙄

She was a good looking women. She was not fat, maybe a 14 at her biggest. She wasn’t very stylish and that one famous puffy dress she wore, she was lampooned for.

There have been no press releases about the school run, and no published pap pictures in the UK press - not least because according to my mate who lives v close to Thomas, there weren't any paps there.

There's been, in many but not all school years, one official "back to school" photo, but that's not a "press release about the school run"

Saying they have "no live in staff" which is what the official releases say, isn't a synonym for having no staff.

So I suppose my unpopular opinion is there are far too many posters who misrepresent even what is officially released; and IMO they map quite closely with those who see other posters as belonging to "teams", rather than having opinions which vary depending on what someone has just done/said/published

This is me. Are we not supposed to have any opinions at all? Or is this thread only for regulars here/

A size 14 was considered fat back then. Evans, the shop for fat lassies started at a size 14. And a size 14 was much smaller then than it is now.
I am not agreeing with the general view, and the way the press talked about her was horrible. But most people would have agreed she was fat back then.

AvrielFinch · 25/07/2024 13:35

@EdithWeston I thought William and Kate are often quoted about doing the school run?

Who can forget Jilly Cooper writing in that period about women ‘dragging their 9 stone bulk’…

I loved Sarah’s wedding dress AND Diana’s. I still think they are both amazing dresses, very princessy and of their time.

CarmelaBrunella · 25/07/2024 13:39

Those people with flags on the Mall etc aren't mentally ill or extreme royalists. Some come to see the pageantry and have a day out.
There's no GB national day of celebration, so I often think it's a substitution for that as well.
I was in Windsor at the time of Harry and Meghan's wedding, people came to have a nice day out, look at the outfits, cheer on the happy couple, it was a positive occasion and the atmosphere was brilliant.

I’ve never seen even one press release about the school run, let alone ‘constant’. I’ve also not seen publicity shots of them on EasyJet 🤷‍♀️

Diana was the mother of the future king though, she would have expected William to marry accordingly. In terms of having a happy marriage I think she fully intended to be the wife and mother her role demanded and saw it as her destiny. I even think she would have adjusted to the differences between herself and Charles if he had been faithful.

Personally I believe she would have been wrong to see Kate off, but I’m sure she would have done.

Anyway, that’s my unpopular opinion!

Not unpopular with me!

Forget about the 'people's princess'. Diana at heart was a creature of the high aristocracy. She would have considered a nice middle class girl like Kate - however wealthy her family and exclusive her education - to be far too common for her son the future king. She would have wanted and expected him to marry the daughter of one of her posh friends, preferably from a titled family like her own. She might have warmed to Kate once it was clear how good she was for William, but I do think she'd have looked down at her relatively humble origins.

That Harry and Meghan's children 'Archie' and 'Lilibet' are fictional and don't exist, and the photographs/footage of them are in fact the children of close friends, especially given the mysterious nature of their births, the fact virtually no one has seen them, parents holidaying every 3-4 weeks without children etc.

I'll believe this, noone wants to shaggy a ginge!!;-p

VanCleefArpels · 25/07/2024 13:54

Diana was subject to childhood trauma and mentally ill, should never have been manipulated into marriage

Harry was subject to childhood trauma and later trauma in the Army, should never have been manipulated by Meghan into marriage (Willy had it right over the dog bowl)

Kate and William deserve all the acting honours if indeed they have in fact separated: they are bloody brilliant at faking affectionate body language (sarcasm alert)

William would much rather have stayed a helicopter pilot and Kate a MC SAHM but they’ve decided to make the best of what they’ve been dealt

They both do a lot of work behind the scenes for and on behalf of their patronages / running the Duchy of Cornwall

JohnnyAndTheDead · 25/07/2024 13:57

But they shouldn't be doing their work "behind the scenes". We pay for them, they have rights and privileges we don't - they should be working where we can see them.

What, sitting at an office desk reading reports, minutes of meetings, research papers, organising trips, answering emails

Don’t be silly

They have staff to do a lot of that. They need to read briefing documents.

How do you think the papers get stories about them? They are released by them. The narrative comes from the RF press offices. They did do a much mocked stunt going on holiday on easyjet or similar budget airline.

I think it’s impossible to know this given how Diana’s death impacting the monarchy. Would the Queen and Charles have been so keen on William’s choice had they not been forced into modernisation after the public reaction to Diana’s death?

We can speculate on what she would have thought of Kate - there was a whole thread on it the other day - but if Diana was alive, I’m not convinced Kate would ever have got near the Royal Family anyway.

Well my unpopular opinion is that they do in fact do a lot of the legwork themselves - and have been instrumental in streamlining the focus to a handful of issues : early years for Kate, Mental Health for them both and Environment and Homelessness for William. This has never been done before - it was entirely them
