A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

If the award "belongs to them, not me", why take it?
He needs the razzmatazz, the clicks and the headlines. Passing it over to someone worthy would be a moral act.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 14/07/2024 11:33

It might have been.

But he didn’t.

And it certainly did not sound sincere.

skullbabe · 14/07/2024 11:35

The Warrior Games are a fantastic initiative but are primarily US focused (seeing as they are organised by the US Department of Defence), but the Invictus Games have become a global platform as they are international - that aims to inspire and unite people through the incredible stories of resilience and strength from its participants (I still of think Yulia and Naomi months after I watched Heart of Invictus).

I think Harry has amplified the core values of the Games, drawing in more resources and support. I think the ESPYs were fantastic to draw attention to the Games and it is really heartening to see previous and current Veterans Affairs ministers being actively engaged in supporting Team GB. Here’s to another 10 years!

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:40

Harry amplified his own entitlement.

Well, at least Harry knows he's been rumbled.

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:42

It's a shame. The Warrior Games were taken and the patronage given to Harry in good faith.
It's just The Sussex Show now. That pair using it for celebrity and Meghan for, well... wearing clothes. Shallow.

@FloofPaws do you know in what way it was paid for? I have a low opinion of these sorts of "awards" and those who receive them, and I did wonder if it was some sort of quid pro quo.

It's all mad.

As far as I can tell, Harry is linked to Invictus, Archewell and BetterUp, and Better Up provides services to Invictus for which Harry is paid as a Better Up employee, and Serena Williams in married to Alexis Ohanian (rich tech investor) and they are both Jehovah's Witnesses, and Ohanian has some link to Marie Tillman Shenton (Chair of Pat Tillman Foundation) and to Better Up, and Serena Williams got to host the Tillman Awards ceremony with costume changes for a 'worthy cause' so that's nice and hopefully the church elders won't call her in again, and Meghan attended as Harry's wife because he got an award, and Meghan gets to have lots of press and to try to reinforce links with Serena and Ohanian, and I think Archewell gave a grant to someone or one of the organisations involved and received a big donation from a rich tech investor and money moves around and awards are awarded and it's all a bit of a back-slapping celebrity bubble really.

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:43

AutumnCrow · 14/07/2024 11:41

Well, at least Harry knows he's been rumbled.

Does he, though? Does he realise what an incredible opportunity he was given, and how he's turned it into this shambles? I actually doubt that.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 14/07/2024 11:43

I don’t think Harry will last 10 years more with Invictus if he continues to make it about him and his spouse.

As Mary Tillman said, he is a divisive figure.

It doesn’t fit well with uniting people. And being thought of as professional victims doesn’t fit with inspiring others to rise.

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:44

@AutumnCrow
"oh what a tangled web we weave"

Unfortunately anything Harry had to say has been negated by his leaving before the awards were finished.

There was no honour in doing that. It was insulting to those who were yet to receive an award.

We keep being told he was there to represent Invictus.

He let them down.

I hadn't thought of the Invictus element to this debacle, until your post.

He accepted on behalf of Invictus, so positioned himself as representing that charity.

To then leave, ostentatiously, while others were still to be presented with their awards was boorish in the extreme. (And the audience, who'd provided the earlier standing ovations, quite rightly booed and heckled them as they left.)

I wonder how Invictus are feeling today about having this man being their face on the international stage?

I predict more booing in Vancouver in 2025, followed by Harry being replaced with a more attractive and effective patron (i.e. one who will promote the charity, not themself; and bring money into the coffers, instead of emptying them for bought awards and creasy dresses for their wife).

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:57

I don't blame the RF for giving him Invictus, and setting up a support network for it's effective running. I suspect they were trying to find something positive and worthwhile for him to do, other than partying in Vegas, playing computer games etc. Unfortunately, it's proven too much for him; he's too greedy, shallow, vain and entitled for such a worthy patronage.
I think the best thing would be for it to be given so someone who really understands and respects this sort of thing. I feel sorry for those who actually do the work for it.

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:58

Excellent points, @Rhaidimiddim . It needs to stop being the Sussex Celebrity and Fashion Road Show.

Any thinking person would have to eventually notice the company they are keeping isn’t quite right.

William at the footie, Kate at Wimbledon, Harry's PR disaster.....

All hands on deck!

Yep, it's all so predictable......

Rhaidimiddim · 14/07/2024 12:03

But Harry solely owns his own mother’s legacy. Right.

Ask John Travolta.

People bitching about Mary Tillman as if she doesn’t have a right to an opinion about an award in her son’s name. That’s gross.

Absolutely this. The bitching about the Tillman family is really out of order and says all you need to know about these bullies.

In a nutshell. They stoop very low.

Let’s have some clarity about why the CEO and CFO for Invictus Canada (two extremely capable and experienced men) were fired.

Let’s have some clarity over Harry and Meghan’s expenses and who is paying for them.

Let’s have some clarity about where the money donated by The Royal Foundation has gone.

skullbabe · 14/07/2024 12:55

Good to see Team UK (not Team GB) coming together. Go Steve!

Not that I wish a divorce on Harry but i seriously doubt he will still be with Meghan in 10 years .

I enjoyed this post. Can’t say I knew much about INVICTUS until now. Harry has won over new fans including me. :)
