A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

If Jackie Magazine was to mate with Orwell’s 1984, you would end up with something resembling the opening post.

😂

LaMarschallin · 14/07/2024 07:11

The Sussex Squad have to desperately milk this for all it's worth as there's precious little else to cling to - and it says something if that debacle was considered positive by them for H&M.
Along the lines of "Nobody threw eggs! Yay!"

And, oi! I liked Jackie and think the standard of writing was far better than that in the OP.
I think you're getting mixed up with Pink.
Or <sniff> Mates
<clutches Poppit beads given away free by Jackie once>

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 09:55

He was given the patronage of Invictus. This is because he is a Prince. He has engaged and involved himself in it.
As someone on another thread said: none of these things are special or heroic, or award worthy.
It's just getting a bit desperate on the part of the fans, who seem to find him amazing.

TallerSally · 14/07/2024 10:27

Excellent post, OP @ConstantGarden1 !

Harry and the Invictus team have clearly been exceedingly skilful at managing the attacks they received in connection with this award. They have remained focused on Invictus, which is what the award is about. And in doing so have made their detractors look like grumpy losers.

Invictus is unquestionably Harry‘s initiative (no-one sensible says otherwise), fine, but the key thing is, it continues to grow, and continues to support veterans all over the world in more and more countries, including Nigeria, and continues to need visibility, fundraising and support.

The next Invictus even more so as it is the first ever winter games, to be held in Whistler/Vancouver in February 2025. Just imagine the level of specialist equipment and facilities needed for the veterans to safely compete. And looking forward to the next Invictus event in future years, it’s clear the initiative needs vast amounts of funding, hence more visibility. Helped by recognition such as this Pat Tillman award and Harry’s Living Legends of Aviation award, also received recently.

We all know that those who hurl negativity at these awards do so in an attempt to downplay/ignore that they are in recognition of Harry’s Invictus initiative, and that this is a fine line to tread.

This latest anti-Harry onslaught has backfired spectacularly. At the centre of it the Daily Fail, who probably thought they’d achieved the coup of the year when they did a Thomas Markle with Mary Tillman. And it certainly got them a lot of views. But ultimately, Harry and the Invictus PR team have outfoxed them.

Harry’s gracious response to Mary Tillman’s ungracious conduct, along with Heart of Invictus on Netflix and the AMAZING video ESPN put together of Invictus (watch it if you haven’t seen it, unless your heart is made of stone it’ll move you to tears) has had the double impact of generating an entire new audience for Invictus in the US, and showing up Harry as gracious in the face of inappropriate criticism.

A double win in my book. 🌟

AliceOlive · 14/07/2024 10:35

People bitching about Mary Tillman as if she doesn’t have a right to an opinion about an award in her son’s name. That’s gross.

AliceOlive · 14/07/2024 10:36

But Harry solely owns his own mother’s legacy. Right.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 14/07/2024 10:41

I find it tragic that some folk will swallow anything.

From what I remember, fibre is a binding agent for faeces. So there we are.

Not something I would advocate chomping on.

On a forum that knows far better than X about this Prince among men? Well they have their own opinion about their former brother in arms.

And I do believe they say he has no spine, no balls and no brain. And so say many, many, many of us.

And they aren’t buying yet another outing for the mummy card either.

The only mummy card that was played beautifully was the only one that mattered.

Mary Tillman is a class act and clearly sees what so many, many, many of us see. 😊💙

Did you watch the video explaining why Harry and why the Invictus Games? It was really moving but I was also so moved by the veterans (Kirstie Ennis, Israel Del Toro, and Elizabeth Marks) who introduced Harry onto the stage heartfelt and profoundly emotional comments - it’s so obvious what Harry and Invictus mean and meant to them.

Awful. I just can't fathom how people would stoop to such a level.

Thanks for posting the link @skullbabe

Watch it, y’all.

Go Invictus!

Absolutely this. Utterly disgusting and shows how low the SS are prepared to stoop.

And a professional victim.

And liar.

Yes, but these are the people who are such full on royalists that they would place a privileged, multimillionaire white Prince above the mother of Pat Tillman. That's a very sad situation, and so elitist.

drivinmecrazy · 14/07/2024 10:57

The thing about Harry and all these awards he's been nominated for is that they are all for and in America.
There's a reason he hasn't been nominated or been awarded things in UK because he doesn't really care.

I'd imagine that being a 'Prince of the Realm' indicates a loyalty to that country.
What has he done for UK veterans that he's been recognised for?

He seems to have metamorphosed into American royalty, which is surely an oxymoron. One that shouldn't even exist.

So either he has great PR or he really doesn't understand basic history.

Either way it's obvious to me that he doesn't have an ounce of moral empathy.

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:00

Excellent points, @drivinmecrazy . It's central to his status and wealth to be a prince, and it does intrigue me that it's being played out in the USA. They obviously want the same for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:01

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 14/07/2024 10:53

Quite the CV.

skullbabe · 14/07/2024 11:01

@ConstantGarden1 I’m also with you that the ESPYs and this award have created a slight narrative shift that I was surprised to see on Twitter and Instagram - many people who are not involved in the day to day of the Windsor Wars watched and were and are really positive about Invictus. It may be my FYPs but so many random people have been commenting about they didn’t know about Harry like that (🤣to steal a stateside turn of phrase) - and after seeing that video, the veterans’ obvious emotion and respect for him on that stage and that gracious speech - they all have been impressed. Which is great news for Invictus. Bring on the Winter Games!

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:04

It would have been decent if Harry was gracious enough to feel that he wasn't a worthy recipient, and suggested that honour went to someone worthy.
However, if you're chasing celebrity, you want the clicks, you want the Daily Mail headlines, and that's exactly what he got. Well played.

Nomination ... or effectively paid for? Awards ceremonies like this stink

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:14

Paid for? It gets worse.
Morally corrupt.

AutumnCrow · 14/07/2024 11:16

The Sussexes and their Sussex Squad, along with their sponsors and connections, have completely ruined the Invictus Games for me. I doubt I'm flying solo on this.

I hope the UK and US veterans take their efforts, time, money and reputations elsewhere, far away from this twisted and commercialised new version of what Invictus was supposed to be - back to the Warrior Games where it all began would be my suggestion.

DelectableMe · 14/07/2024 11:16

@FloofPaws do you know in what way it was paid for? I have a low opinion of these sorts of "awards" and those who receive them, and I did wonder if it was some sort of quid pro quo.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 14/07/2024 11:30

Omitting the wording between "here" and "a voice" might have been more sincere.
