We had one of these threads a while back and people posted all sorts of interesting pics so thought it would be nice to have another

I’ll start with this one if QEII jumping from barge to land on a state visit

And since they’re in the news with the semi-abdication a couple of the Lux royals

1 - four generations - Grand duchess Charlotte, her son Grand Duke Jean, her grandson Grand Duke Henri and her great-grandson Hereditary Grand Duke Guillame

2 - Grand Duke Henri with his parents and siblings

3 - Henri as a youngster

Thanks for the new thread. I remember when Grand Duke Jean took precedence as the longest reigning European royal. (I think it's the King of Sweden now)

I'm away from home currently, will post some pics when I get back.

I think this is a lovely photo .

Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Princess Alexandra and The Duchess of Kent hold their babies

Gorgeous! 1964 was a royal baby boom year!

I love the clothing style at this time.

ARichtGoodDram · 25/06/2024 16:02

If social media had been a thing back in the day then Princess Alexandra would 100% have been described as Princess Marina’s ‘mini-me’

They are so alike in these pics!

They were so similar. Both very elegant ladies as well. Lady Gabriella has a similar look, I always think.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 25/06/2024 18:39

Grand Duchess Charlotte was quite the grande dame, wasn't she. Grand Duchess in her own right, not a consort. The pic sent me off to read up about the family.

She really was quite the formidable character by all accounts.

If you can you should read about her radio broadcasts from London during wwII!

Her sister was rather hard done by in having to abdicate right enough, she was quite unlucky.

Just because I’m a sucker for a good bit of sparkle.

This is Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark wearing the Hesse star tiara. She was the sister of Prince Phillip and died in a plane crash. God knows who has this tiara now but if it was mine, I think it would be permanently attached to my head!

Beautiful woman, and that jewellery!
What a sad episode. Philip was only a teenager, it must have hit him hard.

That is a lovely photo @PrincessMee

I'll echo that, please. I don't think I ever saw that one before, although I lived through the times of all those babies being born.

What a stunning woman. The tiara is the loveliest I’ve ever seen.

Enko · 25/06/2024 19:51

@SomethingBlues . The tiara is currently owned by the foundation of the house of Hesse. I do agre it's a beautiful tiara.

@Abouttimeforanamechange. Yes you are correct the.king of Sweden is the current longest reigning European monarch. (After Margrethe 11 abdicated)

For the thread I love this Photo of Margrethe and Henrik of Denmark
Would be so inappropriate now but back then it was pretty normal.

Ignoring the ciggies, that’s a lovely photo. Such great expressions

It was only released very recently. Was in the Royal Family's private collection, I think. Probably because it's 60 years old this year. I remember Prince Edward being born Blush

Enko · 25/06/2024 22:11

@smilesy even though Henrik was quite a controversial figure in Denmark. I don't think anyone can deny he and Margrethe dearly loved one another. Photo after photo shows this IMO

Ah, that explains it. Thank you.

It's almost like a Vettriano painting.
