Harry is the missing H from Pone. The OP must have thought the use of it was 'Spare' just like himself.

Arry - please.

I'm hearing this a la Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins.

ThePoshUns · 15/06/2024 08:14

That's outrageous, what a horrible little twat he was and still is.

LaMarschallin · 15/06/2024 06:49

🎶 You say "tomato" and I say "tomato"...

I don't know if I'm right, but I say "pone" to rhyme with "moan" (appropriate maybe, since it's "Harry's Pone") and "scone" to rhyme with "gone".
But I also put the jam on before the cream - whole other debate (I had a Cornish grandmother).

With scones, I do one half jam first then cream, and the other cream first then jam. It’s what King Solomon would have wanted.

Wise. Very wise.

I tried that and both of them tasted the same so it must all be about aesthetics. Cream first.

LaMarschallin · 15/06/2024 09:33

I find that I can get more cream on if I put the jam on first and the cream (clotted, of course) is my favourite bit.

Edited: Thinking about it, it probably does look prettier to have a blob of jam on top of the cream. I might take to adding a small garnish of jam to my laden scone...🤔

IsoldeWagner · 15/06/2024 09:36

King Solomon loved his scones. It tells you as much in the Bible.

IsoldeWagner · 15/06/2024 09:39

Mind you, I think Rehoboam and Jeroboam got into an argy bargy after their dad died and split Israel between them.
Bible scholars on here may be able to correct me. I wonder if Charles has recently consulted the Good Book? (No, I do not mean "Spare", though that's a bible for some folks...)

You need a nice fresh strawberry garnish on top!

VanillaSugar2023 · 15/06/2024 10:03

But the cream would be too heavy for the jam and would mix in and make a red runny smeary mess. Cream first. Delicate jam on top.

I think only one of them was Solomon’s son. The other was a minister with delusions of grandeur. They did split Israel though. Since Arry hasn’t got his mits on half the Dutchy of Cornwall, I think the kingdom will be safe 🙏

Thank you for your biblical knowledge! Oh dear, do we have an analogy?

How was it that sizes of champagne bottles got named after biblical kings?
